18. April 1942 – North Africa under Allied control, the Kriegsmarine spotted near Murmansk
The Krigsmarine certainly is larger what I expected. Three BBs! A CV and BB will be sent from the Mediterranean to help with the battle of the Atlantic.
Image

The withdrawal at the Moscow Front continues. The Tank armies go way back for rest and repairs. A Hungarian motorized korps is destroyed north of Voronezh.
Image

The mechanized forces around Stalingrad will be deployed further south in order to protect my oil fields.
Image

Only Axis allied troops in Caucasus. Perhaps I can destroy some of them before the Wehrmacht arrives. The goal is to protect all the oil at all costs here. At some point Ike99 must run out oil.

17. June 1942 – Sicily under attack, Red army retreats
The garrison on Sicily is attacked. In an effort to divert resources from the eastern front I will attend a landing on Sicily.
Image

The withdrawal at the Moscow Front continues.
Image

At the Caucasus Front I spot the Luftwaffe. Darn, I have no air support down south. My armour has been damaged it is pulled back for repairs.

7. July 1942 – Sicily under attack, Red army retreats
I get a number of techs this turn.
Image

The Italian fleet make an attempt to stop the landings. My landing craft take some damage.
Image

The Royal navy and air support at Tripoli sinks the Italian fleet and the garrison is destroyed. The damaged landing craft are sent back for repairs. New landing craft will be sent.. The damaged landing craft are sent back for repairs. New landing craft will be sent.
Image

The withdrawal at the Moscow Front continues.
Image

At the Caucasus Front the Grozny oil field is under a lot of pressure. I withdraw the unit in order for it to fight another day. The motorized korps at Maikop is surrounded.
Image

The Russian PPs this turn is used for repairs and much needed upgrades. I fear for the Russian oil fields. A contingency plan is to send my strategic bombers to the Middle East and bomb the oil fields that Ike99 captures.

27. July 1942 – Clash in the Atlantic, Red army retreats
The current build queue.
Image

Next wave of landing craft is ready to invade Sicily next turn.

The Kriegsmarine has surrounded a convoy heading for Murmansk. But I have finally assembled a large fleet in order to defeat the Germans. The convoy is the perfect bait as it gather the Kriegsmarine at the same spot!
Image

I send in my fleet. The attack is a success. 1 BB and 3 subs are sunk! The Kriegsmarine has suffered a major defeat. A positive turn of events for the war in the west.
Image

For the war in the east, things are much more grim. I spend my Russian PPs for repairs and upgrades. At the centre front I still pull back.
Image

The oil field north of Grozny is lost.

16. August 1942 – Clash in the Atlantic, Red army upgrades
The allies gets some techs.
Image

The German BB outside Murmansk is sunk. Another German BB and sub attack a large convoy headed for Russia (201 PPs). I send in the fleet to sink them and get the precious cargo across the Atlantic.
Image

The first landings in Sicily occur. The garrison is pounded from sea and the air.
Image

I use my Russian PPs for repairs and upgrades. The Germans are advancing slowly towards Perm.
Image

I await the next attack against Grozny.
Image

Summary of the war so far
Again Der PanzerGeneral will share some thoughts on the last year of fighting.

The Wehrmacht has suffered a lot of panzer and infantry losses in the war against Russia. The Italians lost most of their men in North Africa. Finally I am making a dent in their manpower pool.
The British losses have been negligible, but the Russian losses have been catastrophic.
Image

England
The British research progress.
Image

I will not expand the RAF or the Royal navy. I am happy with my amount of air and sea units. The British army needs to expand if it is ever going to fight the Wehrmacht.

North Africa is in allied hands. This goal has been accomplished. The war against Italy is about to start.

USA
The US research progress.
Image

The US navy has enough units. The USAF and army needs to expand.

Russia
The Russian research progress.
Image

The situation at the Perm and Caucasus fronts are critical. The goal is simply to make Russia survives long enough so that England and USA can start their offensive against Germany.

I have decided to copy a strategy from Supermax. His strategy of an allied invasion of Turkey and decimating the axis oil is appealing a lot to me. I will start to ship units and planes to the eastern Med. I will still put some pressure on Italy so that Ike99 thinks this will be the allied theatre of war in 1942/1943.

Hi,

I have a suggestion although it may come too late. In the Caucasus I'd recommend pulling back into the mountains (other than leaving a garrison in Grozny city) immediately. What you can't afford I think is to lose all of your units outside of the mountains, giving him free passage through the mountains. It is ridiculously difficult as Germany to slug through the mountains south but if you have no units defending he will happily move straight through for free.

Also I think you should consider bombing Germany as soon as you can produce some strategic bombers.

I was surprised to see Soviets getting only tech lvl 1 in last half of '42. Perhaps more early investment in research if that is possible for you next game.

It looks like the situation is quite grim for you. I'd also recommend producing only infantry/garrison at this point with USSR.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the advice for the mountain defense of the Caucasus. Another lesson learned!
My research teams in this game have been soooo slow :( I invested in a lot of techs for all three powers early on, but the results have been mediocre.
I agree with only producing infantry for the Russians. I need more troops at the front line.

honestly at this point you might consider producing a bunch of garrison units with infantry sprinkled in. You need bodies - you're very thin.

cheers

5. September 1942 – The Kriegsmarine suffer a major defeat, Sicily under attack, the Red army receives new units
The allies get some techs.
Image

The remnants of the Kriegsmarine attack the convoy for Murmansk and are sitting ducks for my fleet. The last German BB and uboat in the area are sunk. For now I think I have sunk most of the German navy.

The allies ship planes and land units from England to the Med. They will be for the campaign against Turkey.

The attack in Sicily progresses slowly.
Image

The Russians buy three garrisons and deploy them at the Perm front. I notice that I will have a challenge here. I can only deploy my new units at Perm. This means that my newly deployed units must move out quickly to make room for the next batch of garrisons.
Image

I slowly pull back at Grozny, in order to put a defensive line along the mountains.
Image

There has not been much combat in Russia lately and I have not spotted many new German units. I am beginning to wonder what Ike99 uses all his PPs at. He is not repairing any units, so I have a suspicion that he is strengthening his Westwall and building ships for his navy. My allied fleet will be on guard in the Atlantic.

After sea, air and land attacks Sicily is in allied hands.

The Russians use their PPs for repairs and unit upgrades.
The Germans advance slowly towards Perm.

15. October 1942 –German offensive against Perm has started
The allies start to bombard Taranto.
Image

The Russian convoy arrives at Murmansk. I have a whopping 260 PPs which I can spend. The PPs are used on repairs and garrisons.

The German have started an offensive against Perm. They close in on my forces and inflict some damage.
Image

The Germans attack Grozny. North of the Crimea my two partisan units finally gets to the sea of Azov. My BB can now supply them.

4. November 1942 –Winter has arrived in Russia
The allies get some techs.
Image

The Italians make a sub attack against the Royal navy south of Taranto. The RAF and Royal navy sink one of the subs. A CV has suffered major damage (3 steps left) and is sent to Malta for repairs.
Image

Winter has arrived in Russia and the German effectiveness has dropped. I use the turn to repair my units and deploy the newly arrived units. I attack a weak infantry korps and destroy it.
Image

Grozny falls to the Germans. The axis allied unit in the Crimea is cut off from supply. The plan is to destroy it and afterwards ship the two partisan units to the Caucasus.

24. November 1942 –Minor Russian counterattacks
The allies get a lot of techs this turn.
Image

The British upgrade their forces.

The Russian use their PPs for repairs.
An Italian unit perish at the Perm front. The situation seems stabile for the moment.
Image

South of Grozny my tank army attacks and damages an infantry korps with 5 steps. My brave tank army lose only 1 step in the attack.

Ike99 has foiled my plan for my two partisan units north of the Crimea. An Italian unit has popped up, and has blocked their advance further south.

14. December 1942 –The Italian air force suffers a humiliating defeat by the RAF, all quiet on the Eastern front
The allies get some techs this turn.
Image

The British continue to upgrade their forces.

The RAF attacks an Italian tactical bomber. The Italian fighter intercepts and loses 4 steps, whilst the tactical bomber loses 2 steps. My super duper RAF fighter suffers no casualties! It seems that Ike99 has gone for quantity over quality for the Italians. The attacks will continue :)
Image

The allied fleet has started to harass the korps at Brest. When the rest of the fleet has upgraded they will close in on any axis forces along the coast and take pot shots at them.
Image

The Russian use their PPs for repairs, and buy a leader for the Caucasus front. Hopefully this will raise the effectiveness of the units at this front.

All quiet on the Perm front.
Image

At the Caucasus front there is not much happening either.

3. January 1943 –Minor counterattack at the Perm front, the allies continue to upgrade their forces.
The British continue to upgrade their forces.

The korps at Brest suffers a total of 5 step damage after sea and air raids.
Image

The Russian repair some units and buy two garrisons which are deployed at Perm. The new leader arrives and is assigned to the tank army in the Caucasus.

I attack with planes and ground units and destroy a panzer korps near Perm. The Luftwaffe suffers heavy causalities when intercepting the Red Air Force. Two partisan units way back have reached the front line. They will rail to Perm next turn.
Image

My partisan units will try to outflank the Italian korps north of the Crimea.

23. January 1943 –Minor counterattack at the Perm front, the allies continue to upgrade their forces.
The allies get some techs this turn.
Image

The British complete their unit upgrades.

The US and Royal navy expand their shore bombardments. A strategic bomber raids the Ruhr area and uncovers a Luftwaffe fighter and tactical bomber.
Image

Preparation for “Operation Fez” the conquest of Turkey is well under way. The operation will start in 2-3 turns.

The two partisan units rail to Perm. I buy an Air tech with my PPs.
Image

All quiet at the Caucasus front. My attempt to outflank the Italian korps north of the Crimea has failed. They won’t move anymore :(
