My friends, I don't understand what the argument is about )))) Deceiving the enemy began with the Trojan horse )))) Dolls, imitation of military equipment made of rubber and wood were also very successfully used by clever and resourceful commanders )))) The same Desert Fox loved to imitate orgasms, i.e. offensive by tying logs to lorries )))))

Soon, a large number of fighters began landing from an aeroplane at the Sate-Kandav Pass. The fighters opened a barrage of fire with everything they had to repel the threat. But the "paratroopers" were unusual - they were just sandbags under the parachute domes. The goal in all this was obvious - to detect enemy points and destroy all of them, which was done. Then the assault began - so the perfectly fortified pass, which was considered impregnable, was taken with minimal losses.

Plywood tanks in '41 and '45
Image
Another German document brought to mind an episode of the beginning of the Siege of Leningrad:

"Zhukov listened without asking questions. Then he turned his back and, without saying a word, began to look at a large scheme of the city's defences pinned to the wall.
- What kind of tanks were in the area of Petro-Slavianka? - suddenly he asked, turning to me again and watching me put the maps into the folder. - What are you hiding, give it here! There's some rubbish there...
- These are models of tanks, Comrade Commander, - I showed on the map a conventional sign of a false tank grouping, which caught his eye. - Fifty pieces of wooden models made in the workshop of the Mariinsky Theatre. The Germans bombed them twice ...
- Twice! - mockingly interrupted Zhukov. - And how long have you kept these toys there?
- Two days.
- You're looking for fools among the Germans. The third time they'll drop wooden toys instead of bombs....
Of course, Zhukov was right. He ordered to move the models to a new place tonight and to make another hundred pieces"

This is a fragment from the memoirs of Boris Vladimirovich Bychevsky, head of the engineering troops of the Leningrad Front. The book, by the way, is interesting and not very cleaned up, unlike most memoirs of the Soviet military. You can read it here: http://militera.lib.ru/memo/russian/byc ... index.html

Why ours reached such a life in September 1941 near Leningrad, I think, is clear.
1945 came, now the Germans had no tanks, and their almost mirror solution followed, of course, with a slight touch of Ordnung. It is not without reason that it is said, desperate times call for desperate decisions....

I hope the deception function of deception of the enemy will be at sea and in the air and not only with airborne forces !
https://von-hoffmann.livejournal.com/674600.html

In the two world wars, all nations armed their merchant ships with guns and machine guns to protect them from aircraft and submarine attacks. However, an armed merchant ship does not become a warship and therefore does not enjoy the right of hostilities, the right to stop ships at sea, search and seizure. It can use its armament only in self-defence and nothing more.

However, international law does not prohibit the use of military stratagems to mislead the enemy. Examples of such tricks are: the use of camouflage, tactical traps, false operations, means and methods of electronic warfare and disinformation. For example, it was quite possible to draw shadows from gun turrets on the deck of an aircraft carrier in the expectation that not very experienced pilots would mistake it for a battleship, and to put two or three false smoke stacks on one ship to visually transform it into another.

The IX Hague Convention did not resolve the question of where a merchant ship could be turned into a warship, nor did it resolve the question of whether it could be turned back into a merchant ship in time of war. Even then England, the United States, Japan, and Holland defended the position that the conversion of a merchant ship into a warship should only take place in domestic ports and waters. These countries were keen to ensure that ships of other powers with fewer ports than themselves could not fly the military flag on the high seas. Russia, France, Italy and Germany believed that such conversion of merchant ships into military vessels was possible and legal also on the high seas. So the weakest always tried to find a "non-symmetrical answer", but it was not possible to reach an agreement on this issue at that time.

During the Second World War

The world conflict that broke out in September 1939 brought new losses to the already small fleet of cargo sailing ships. The famous barque "Olivebank" was killed by a mine explosion, in December 1940 the German submarine U-140 torpedoed the Finnish barque "Penang" in the Indian Ocean - it went down with the whole crew. The barque "Privall", one of the last "Flying P", was caught by the war off the South American coast and was interned in Valparaiso.

One of the few sailing ships used for their intended purpose during World War II were the former German four-masted barques Kurt and Hans. Built in 1904 for the Hamburg-based Siemers Company, they sailed to Mexico and Chile before falling into Allied hands in 1914. "Kurt", renamed first "Dreadnought", then "Moshulu", worked on the line San Francisco - Australia, sailed on the Great Lakes and was eventually bought by the famous shipowner, "sail collector" Gustav Erickson. Since 1935 it has been an indispensable participant in "wheat" races. The beginning of the Second World War caught "Moshula" in Australia. On 22 May 1940, the barque arrived in the Norwegian port of Kristiansand, where it fell into the hands of the Germans. Most of the time the Windjammer was used as a blockchief (floating warehouse), but in 1942 made several voyages between Oslo, Horten and Kirkenes, supplying Wehrmacht troops in the Arctic Circle. From 1947 the old sailing ship changed hands: Norwegian, German, Swedish and Finnish entrepreneurs tried to restore it, but to no avail. Finally, in 1970, it finds its way to the United States. The now restored "Moshulu" is located in Philadelphia, acting as a museum and at the same time as a floating restaurant.

The similarly styled "Hans" also came under the American flag after the First World War and served for a while as a training vessel for the "Mary Dollar" in San Francisco. It was then disarmed, towed to Los Angeles and renamed "Tango". As a blockchief, he lived to see World War II. And then an amazing metamorphosis happened to him. At the beginning of the war, there was a need for anything that could float. The hull of the blockship was dry-docked and converted into a... a six-masted schooner. The impressive vessel, with a deadweight of 5393 tonnes, took on a cargo of timber, left the west coast of the USA, rounded Cape Horn and reached Cape Town safely on the 103rd day of the voyage. The schooner "Tango" then made two more transatlantic voyages and was sold to Portugal, where she was named "Cidade di Porto". From February 1943, the ship was used to transport cotton from Mozambique to Lisbon. In 1946 it was towed to Portugal and soon dismantled for metal.

But not all were lucky enough to "die in bed" - for example, the Soviet training barque "Tovarishch" (former English "Lauriston") was captured by the Germans and sunk in Mariupol, and the converted motor tanker "Fiona Shell" (former English "Goodrich", 2243 gross tonnes) was blown up in September 1941 in Gibraltar by Italian submarine saboteurs.

Conquest of pontoon bridges

It will now be possible to capture Pontoon bridges that are located at a fixed point. If a ground unit is next to the bridge, the bridge will change sides. If the enemy comes next to the bridge again, the bridge will change sides again.

This is only possible with Pontoon bridges that are already in position at the start of the scenario and the option must be edited in the scenario. So not for mobile Pontoon bridges that are placed later in the game.

The Poland and Russia scenarios will soon be updated with this option. So don't immediately destroy the enemy Pontoon bridges, but conquer them!

Maybe these capturable ponton bridges could have the "special" feature to be better visible on the map ?

That's a good idea. I am testing now but have some problems. The game crashes if the enemy tries to take back the bridge. So for now in the Kursk scenario Germans can take Soviet bridges and Soviets can take German bridges but they can not take the bridges back. Another problem is that if you move the platoon bridge to a new location it will not work anymore.

So for example in the Kursk scenario both players start with deployed pontoon bridges. This bridges can all be taken by the enemy. But as soon as the German player (Campaign mode) move a platoon bridge to a new location, the Soviets can not capture that German platoon bridge anymore. The Soviet bridges will not be moved so the Germans can capture them during the whole scenario.

Hi!

This mod is still awesome!

In the great Polish campaign, a few Polish artillery guns are not visible:

22.8; 26,21
I discovered these for the first time in 2.40...could it be just me?

I wish you all the best!
