expanding onto baggage

Post by OldenTired »

two BG are in melee. one expands into overlap, and ends up with part of the moving base being placed onto my baggage.

what happens here?

he has obviously moved into contact (or more specifically onto contact) with the baggage, and will have to roll to stop looting in the JaP.

but how does it effect the melee? does it effect it at all?

and, can he actually make the move onto contact when the baggage itself isn't removed until looting stops? i.e. there isn't actually enough room to place the base between the edge of the melee and the baggage itself (pg 72 "feeding in more bases")

One base can never be on top of another, so the expansion can't happen.

If you don't have enough room to expand, the base can't physically fit, you don't do it. So if your opponent wanted to expand into your camp and there was not enough room he could not do it.

A qustion for you though, how can he only be partially in contact with your camp, since after impact you two should have conformed and all bases should be in full frontal contact with an enemy.

Feeding in bases can only be used to expand an existing melee, you can't expand into a new enemy, which in this case would be the camp. However you contact camps by moving into them during the manouvre phase, which is when you would also expand but not sure it would apply to this situation.

My guts say he could not expand into the camp but we shall see what others have to say.

what about a twist! i got the order wrong... we were facing one another and within two MU, and he expanded in his movement phase. i charged in the next impact phase.

however, he would still have had to expand his base onto the baggage, and there wasn't sufficient room to do so.

i'm thinking that he would not have been able to.

You can only expand to feed more bases in if there is room to do so. When contacting an enemy camp you must stop at the edge. Therefore, you cannot expand onto the enemy camp. I vote NO on the expansion attempt.
