Enhance Unit Info

Post by ralfmartin73 »

I have played the Blitzkrieg Campaign of OOB some years ago and now came back and played the american, german and now soviet campaign. I know that some of these proposals may have been made before and also there is the Unit Navigator Tool, but it would be easier to have this in the tool itself (like in Fantasy General 2 which I played before). Also I know that the game is one the market already for some years, but you are still adding DLCs to it, so I give it a try.

1: Show Unit Traits of enemy units: It would be helpfull to see the unittraits of enemy units without the unit navigator. E.g. which ships have torpedos (there are e.g. cruisers that have torpedoes and others have not).
2: Show Unitclass: It would be usefull to show the unit class of a unit, especially for enemy units where you can not look this up in the purchase screen. When I started again with blitzkrieg there was learning curve for me to memorize which enemy units where AT and which Artillery (I later found out that you normaly can spot the difference be checking if the barrel of the gun is horrizontal (AT) or diagonal). Also if you don't know all units by heart it is hard to differenciate between e.g. Fighter, Tactical and Strategic bombers for which you get a bonus from Dogfighter/Intercaptor. The FW 200 Condor is a Tactical Bomber altough it is large, or the see the difference between the Soviet Pe-3 (fighter) and Pe-2 FT (Tactical Bomber) which look 99% identical. At least for me it would be very helpfull to e.g. display the Unit class symbol next to the unit on the map.
3: Show if a Unit has AT or AA support: It would be helpfull to show if a Unit has AT or AA support (like I think destroyers have without being able to attack planes, while Cruisers with there AA Batteries don't have) without moving your attacking unit to the unit this unit is supporting (which is not reversable). Especially with the combined Artillery/AA/AT units this a learning curve, I dont't want to know by heart if the STUG III B (I don't think so) or SU-76 (this one has it) has AT support in direct fire mode or not. Even the Unit Navigator tool is unclear in this case, for it will show anti tank mode instead of direct fire mode for thos units.

I never liked how when comparing stats of different units the game highlights in yellow the higher one, instead of the entire statline of one of them. It's stupid and confusing: i want to see the differences between two units, I can see which stat is higher by myself.

right-clicking on the minimap will switch to the strategic map. Unit classes are shown on it. It will help to distinguish (fighter) from (Tactical Bomber)

Strategic map does not give information about the selected unit and moreover this mode is buggy, the game crashed several times by pressing a key or doing a action in strategic map :(

We always have a white square flashing in the center of the map :

How does it work with the strategic map when two units are superposed, a land unit and an air unit for example ?

Every time I had that, the air unit got shown instead of the land one. I think it works this way regardless of the land/air focus on the game map.

Thanks for this information, I was not aware of this. I have tested a bit, it shows e.g. correctly if a Flak 88 is AA or AT, depending on its mode. Still this would be very good if this would be shown as a small icon next to a unit on the normal map.
