Unfortunately Pete I do not think you are allowed to win 2 prizes at Britcon. Unless you have a side bet on. The year I won the most points against a seed I was lucky not to place, a point off third I think. If I had I would not have won a painted army but would have had a plaque for the wall instead. Hmm?

Well done to Pete for his win. After my game with him, my Norse Irish have a pathological hatred of Ottoman Turks. Still he played really well and is a great guy to boot. However wait unitl next year.

JD gave two prizes for free entry - you won one of them Pete.

Somebody else won two prizes - a lady in fantasy with a place (first I think) and best painted army.

I am not sure about the free entry question but two prizes is certainly possible.

JD is away on business this week so I suspect we won't get clarification for a day or two.

I know that two prizes is definitely possible at Britcon. The only time I am aware of a redraw on the free entry the name wasn't announced (I am pretty sure it was me and I had already won a period and the Fantasy Wargaming and was a previous badge draw winner to boot). Actually come to think of it Pete won two prizes last year... a place in FoG and best sport IIRC.

That is because not placing was a condition of Matt's Giant Killer prize and not a Britcon rule about how many prizes you can win.

So where are the pictures of the much-touted knitted terrain, then?

My wife has offered to knit me some - from her hand-spun, hand-dyed, organic wool from nearly extinct sub-breeds of sheep, no less (normally reserved for knitting hats and socks for the Re-enactment Society's Authenticity Police) - if I can get her a pattern or at least some decent pictures...

Linda’s knitted terrain gathered even more interest as the weekend went on. At least one opponent was surprised by a unit of Catalan Almughavars ambushing them out what they had originally thought was a pair of gloves and a small striped hat.

FOG continues to be a pleasure to play. I had 6 great games, 4 against new opponents, all of which were played in an excellent spirit. Shit happens as they say. Still, I actually learnt quite a few interesting little rules which I wasn't aware of due to lack of practice so it wasn't a waste of time by any means and Peter was a pleasure to lose to.

Interestingly, out of my six games, three were decided by outrageous bad luck which was a shame as they all had the makings of interesting and difficult games until the ones and twos started appearing in profusion. Like Pete, I'd like to commiserate with Paul Cummins for his spectacular bad luck with cohesion tests and melees. Losing to fragmented poor longbowmen was an unexpected result to say the least.

Overall, I enjoyed myself despite a filthy cold and I feel particularly pleased to have got to the top table with an army containing 32 poor MF elements.

My thanks to everybody and I will be back.

..... and i will have my revenge on poor MF - next time I see them in a game, they are getting the hammer.

either that or I start using them myself - totally unkillable

great weekend of fighting off longbow killing armies (and getting wrecked by poor longbow) - so adding to the chorus of thanks

and sorry to Graham for manouvering the game into a non playable situation - really wasnt what I was trying to achieve.

time to use something different - Henry needs a bit of a holiday.

Just to say I had an excellent time at my first Britcon (and first UK Comp since
7th Edtdays).
Had to rush off for flight on Sunday so never got to say personal thanks to
those organizing/running the show.

I appreciate a lot of work goes into organizing the draws etc so again mucho
thanks/kudos

Just one thing for next year could you maybe arrange a few nubile maidens to
stand around with large Ostrich feather fans to cool the warriors

) in the Dbmm section (burn the heretic !) but I suspect most of the organizing team are more likely to visit these forums so please forgive my impudence**

Glad you had a good time Gary, only one of the Britcon team actually frequents the DBMM list (Nik) so you are right in that more of us will see your comments here. I fear I am persona non grata on the MM list so all I do is lurk occasionally.

Anyway overall it was a superb Britcon, numbers overall were up despite the economic climate, we had getting on for 20 overseas players, attendance by the public was up and most things ran pretty smoothly. There were issues but we will be seeing what we can do to make sure that this year's issues don't happen next year.

Hopefully we will see you and plenty more from Ireland next year.

Yet again a great competition. Six cracking games. Thanks to my opponents Paul Cummings, Eric Thomson, Bob Amey, Paul Dawson, Jon Ackers and Steve Murton.

A big Hooray for Eric for sending his knights into the rough against the Almughavers and giving me a proper fight and a big boo hiss for both Pauls who'se longbows pranced about like girls at a ballet class whilst shooting me to peices. Did Henry V do that at Agincourt I think not?

I enjoyed this year more than last despite finishing about 20 places lower. Although I think the Arogonese has had its day. Too short to cover the table and as manouverable as a three legged arthritic donkey. I might have to get a skythian and start mincing about the battle field. Gawd elp me!!

Thanks to all the organisers who did Sterling work as usual. High points:
1) Matts Almugavars - 1 unit of 8 over powered by 3 of my units and I killed a man in each of 5 consecutive melees and they autobroke but never dropped a cohesion level!! The other unit beat off my Knights 3 times before I charged home for a fourth time and routed them!
2) Other games against Jon, Jon, Keith, Duncan and especialy Thomas who knowledge of English put us to shame!
Low points:
1) No beer in the bar!
2) Two units double dropping on impact!

2, Who painted the Swedes pictured above - they are devine? If I win the Italian Lottery I want him to paint me 1000 point of the same figures for me.

1. There was both bitter and lager available. Just not on the same day on draught
