Modding plans for the rest of the year

Post by Grondel »

Hi all,
next sunday (30.07.23) 4pm UTC we will have a come together on our discord server discussion what to do next after both PC1-remake and SoE received an update.

Anyone who wants to join us is welcome, if u want to participate or just keep us company doesn´t matter.

Plans so far for PC1-remake:
- redo 1940, in the same way 1939 was just redone
- add 1940 Ltd
- start with 1943-west
- finnish loosing path 1943NH

tpo1 will post later and inform u about SoE.

in addition we talked about a complete rework of the units-file to get a lot of stuff straight that did not(in our oppinion)get the attention and complexity it deserved.

if u want to join us, just contact any of us via discord or here to get an invite to our server. my handle is: grondel.

For Storm Over Europe.
Beta test for 1940 part one should commence sometime in August followed by its release.
1940 part 2 hopefully this year as well. Still working on the concept for that.

Imo you should focus on 1944/1945 before you rework everything again and again. Also unit files and stuff is secondary.

Just my honest opinion, it is insane what you guys are doing. I said it once before, some of your stuff is even better than the official DLC which are created by a whole team.
But I would like to go on with the campaign and I also think if you have seen the end at least once it might give you are better perspective of what needs to be changed in a rework.

i would love to, but i won´t go ahead to 44/45 until pacific is out.

currently several units i want to use in 44/45 are not working propperly. 1 example is the V1/V2 rockets, which are in the game since day one but sadly still don´t work propperly.
also i have several ideas how to use them in the current state, i know for sure how i would rage when i do 44/45 with some workarounds just to have them in working condition one day after i´m finished.

concerning the units-file, that depends on the standards u set. obviously mine are higher. :)
the current units-file has many inconsistencies when considering the units-appearance. most prominent example is the Flak 8.8 on SdKfz, which is totaly out of place.
some general traits were not considered when creating the units-file. most prominent example is "retrograde" which can lead to having 0 fighter-planes avail.
Infantrie in 45 has become rediculously useless. i lost a 15 str Pioneer standing in a forest to enemy tanks(only tanks, no artillerie, no infantry supporting them, just 3 tanks attacking) in 1 turn during AO45.

i could go on some time, but i don´t think thats necessary.

as always, thx for the feedback.

Plans so far for PC1-remake:

Maybe???... Why-Not... for a change!... try venturing into "Uncharted-Territory". "A-Hypothetical"... as it were!.

I have always wanted to try some of the various WW2-participants from the ground-up!. For instance... i would like to take a shot at Mussolini's Italy... to determine the direction and development of Italy's Armed-Forces... to also direct any military adventures by player directed control. This would include better planning and support for any Campaigns or Missions.

As well... Charles de Gaulle... had some very innovative... very serious ideas or changes for the French Army that his "Higher-Ups"... just brazenly dismissed. Had they taken him up on his presented ideas... "The Battle of France" just may have turned out very differently. On top of that... had the "Maginot-Fortification-Defense-Line"... been completed... this would or could have thrown a serious wrench into the German War Plans for France. As with Mussolini... i would like to also take a hand or effort at developing "de Gaulle's" ideas for the defense of France... to see how it could work out!.

Same with "Finland"... "Norway"... and what-ever-else along that line of thought.

I know it is a bit off-topic, but I just could not help myself to post that. :D

Great comment on the Infantry in 45. Gotta hide them or they will be overrun every time. Not sure how to do it - if you can't inflate their statistics, maybe a higher level of entrenchment?

I hope you don't run out of steam. The modding content has been exceptional and is really appreciated.

What about the awards the units can get. Do you plan to modify some of them?

I think they could use some fine-tuning.
Infantry kills are very easy for your own infantry, tanks, bombers. But especially antik tanks struggle with that.
Support fire is also not balanced. 150x for second awards is tough, but 300x for the 3. awards is too much. In the DLCs I only reached that in 1944/1945 by using heroes and forcing the unit in position.
Fighter planes can never reach these awards.

And you could think about the bonuses. Double support fire sounds very nice, but has some negative effects. A 88 AA-Gun got only 4 ammo. Lets say bomber with a strength of 10 attacks, first shot kills 7 and 2 suppressed, it will fire again and waste ammo for like nothing. After 2 actions like that your army got no more aa protection.

My ideas:
1) Adjust the numbers (fine-tuning) to reach the awards depending on the class
2) Adjust the bonuses you get with the awards. A popup dialog would ne nice, where players can decide about the award: +1 hard attack or +1 defense. Something like that.

the ideas are nice sadly they can´t be done atm.
all we could do is adjust the numbers needed for all units, like needed overruns for steamroller in AO eq.
individual settings for unit types are not possible atm.
the bonuses themselves are beyond what can be accessed atm.
