Cavalary graphic bug
To the developpers of the game!
After playing OOB WW2 Blitzkrieg DLC I noticed an annoying graphical bug in every mission were cavalery is involved.
The cavalery unit is not holding their according rifles in their hands.
Instead the rifles are lying beside the horses on the ground.
Can you please adress this graphical issue in a patch?
I've attached 2 screenshots that are also promotional pictures from your websites.
So it must be an issue right from the release of the game.
I'm surprised why you didn't notice that right from the start when quality testing.
Hope you can solve the problem and I won't see that annoying graphical bu in the future again.

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
Don't get your hopes up, this bug's been there since .... forever.
Just search the forum for "cavalry rifles on the ground" or something similar...

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
Okay, this gets a honorary bump by me.
Hello, Mr. Bebro, this is your work, isn't it?
Why have you not fixed this since 2015?
Oh yes, I forgot. No one plays with cavalry units, so who cares?
Where is the dignity?
Hippophobia? @Gabe
Could you fix something like that (one year)?

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
Nope, sorry. Already tried that. The infantry models use animations that I have no clue about how they work.
You can improve the cavalry animation a little bit by using different infrantry units (I think I already did that in the downloadable version of my mod).
BTW, did you ever see horses other than brown? There should be (at least) a black one available. Not sure about white. But the game always picks the brown one.
Re: Cavalary graphic bug
I don't get it either with the Transport_Horse and Transport_Horse_B for all cavalry and horse-transport units.
The cavalry horseys are always black or rather dark brown, the transport one (light) brown.
The texture of the B-Horse is the dark one, while the one is the light brown one. I don't see any other horse textures, besides the extra cart.
Restarting the scenario or game won't change that.
At least the game accepts all faction soldiers on top of them, although all with dropped rifles of course...
Maybe this hippo magic there is more complicated as it looks.

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
Ah okay, so the game seems to pick only model1 entry for both horses, although both types are defined.
I've changed here my '45 cavalry, next to '44, to Transport_Horse only which shows the transport-cart one now.
I think I'm going to pick the dark one for Axis and the brown one for Allies.

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
Just to clarify - this is *NOT* my work. A bit less "jumping to conclusions" please.

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
Oooookay.
But how about you do something about it anyway?
The German and Soviet factions both use cavalry units in the stock DLC campaigns (for player purchase).
Not to mention the numerous aux. units in the DLCs and, of course, community custom campaigns!

Don't bother, they don't give 2 $hits

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
Tone it down, please. Although, I can understand your frustration.
The problem with this game, as I perceive it, is in the "They" in your sentence. There seems to be no official "They" anymore. The original designer team, The Artistocrats, is moribund. The head designer left town years ago.
Whatever attention OOB gets now is from an ad hoc committee of Slitherine officials. Until somebody takes full charge of the franchise again, it is what it is. "They" do some things occasionally, like the recent 10.0.0 patch, but then "They" disappear again.
So here it is: Take OOB as it is, or leave it.

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
I really think OOB is worth the annoyance of the cavalry issue (or other similar non-critical issues).
Even with the newer Panzercorps 2 I think OOB is the best of the games of similar ilk.
But I would like to see (and pay for) a OOB 2 incorporating all the proposed fixes on these pages..

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
Well, that's precisely what I mean, the indolence of the original team is just plainly offensive towards the lawful customers and fans of the franchise.
I still nevertheless appreciate any effort made by the Slitherine team. Even though the thousand-times-talked-about cav bug is literally an alpha stage problem. Of course it's not serious, it's just a really big sad reputation damager.
So, yes, indeed, "I leave it" as you put it, and "THEY" won't get my cash.

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
I am sorry to hear that because the game, warts and all, needs your cash and that of many others in order to grow.
It's okay as it is — cavalry graphic and other issues notwithstanding — but, as I have said many times in the past, it could easily (perhaps said a bit optimistically, that) grow SIDEWAYS. What do I mean by that? Expand the era it covers forwards and backwards! Same engine, different units and some adjustments to their capabilities.
Look, if there was an Order of Battle: American Civil War, and it still had cavalry rifles on the ground, I would shake my head with a slight grin, moan and groan a bit, AND BUY IT! But that would take the vision and determination of a dedicated team, not well-meaning caretakers.

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
Look, I don't type these things with a light heart. I love the gameplay of this game, and I would LOVE to support the devs. To my mind, it's probably the best iteration of the Panzer General spirit. BUT, if the devs are not eager to correct such a blatant, MINOR, laughable thing as a major unit model bug - it means they just don't care about the product AS A WHOLE and thus don't deserve our money.bru888 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 6:07 pm

Of course, some people will say the problem is of little consequence. And it really is. Amidst the abyssmal, disgusting textures this game has, the primitive, caveman-like animations - one could argue the bugged horses fit the bill in a way. I'm not a graphics queen, I don't give a damn about RTX or whatever, I just want the game to be relatively bug-free. But this? This is just a spit in the eye of the playerbase.
I REALLY wanted to give them these $250. I really did.

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
I hear you. Well, why don't you at least keep an eye out here once in a while to see if the game does improve and grow?
For, and I think Slitherine knows this, despite it being 8 years old and somewhat neglected, it still has a core of fans and occasional new players. This I attribute to the gameplay that you mentioned. There is something about the A.I. mechanism, the animation of units, and the scaleability of its maps that makes it an enjoyable wargame. The scenario and campaign editors add to the enjoyment. It mostly is a good quality game.
Slitherine could make a bundle more on it if they threw the necessary resources behind it. I said someplace else (the "What are you cooking?" thread), "the best recipe for Order of Battle at this time is to take a gamble and expand it into other historical eras or even hypothetical conflicts. Sure, it would be a significant investment and risk but the basics of gameplay are already there, proven and solid. I would love to see OOBs for WWI, the American Civil War, Vietnam, and the Napoleonic Wars. Even war on Mars!"

Re: Cavalary graphic bug
OOB could give us WW1, Spanish Civil War, French Indo-China, Korea, MidEast and Viet Nam off the top of my head.
Some of these conflicts have already been modded by us humble players.
Plenty of opportunities for Slitherine to generate some cash here as well.
