I'm really enjoying the scenarios around Alexandria and Cairo. Lots of things to do, lots of smaller support groups and huge numbers of very annoying bombers (luckily I had a well-placed 88 and a much stronger air wing than I usually use.
Something I noticed was that the early SE gift units units are German planes. This is kind of OK, but I rather like playing a mainly-Italian or all-Italian force so could these and more of the special hero units be replaced by Italian ones?
While on SE units, I was mildly surprised to get an SE tankette in early 1943. It was nice once upgraded.

This was one of the early choices i had to make. The vanilla equipment file does not contain SE units for Italy. Okay, the equipment file i included does contain Italian SE units but i don't want to force people to use this one; everyone has its own personal favorite. That is the main reason i create scenarios with the vanilla stock and everybody can use their own equipment file to play the campaigns. The creators of the official Afrika Korps could have added more Italian equipment, that was an excellent opportunity but instead they went for an easy solution by adding a panther and the brummbar.
Guille made some great Italian units which players can add to their equipment file.
There are six units with a special hero throughout the campaign: 3 Italian and 3 German, so that is evenly divided.

First of all, thanks again to Niki for continuing the improvements and development on several of his mods, this helps a lot to keep this wonderful game alive...
I would be more than happy to add a reasonable quantity of Italian SE or captured units, so the "asking season" is open and I will try to expand the Italian unit roster...

Sd.Kfz.6 mit 7.62 cm FK 36–r) is a 76 mm captured Soviet divisional gun F-22 in a high rectangular open top cabin. Combat weight 10.5 tons, crew 5 people, dimensions: 6330x2260x2980 mm, cabin reservation 10 mm, speed up to 50 km / h, power reserve 317 km. 9 units were manufactured.

Thanks a lot Nico for the mod!
Had lots of fun with it. I especially liked the smaller and/or defensive scenarios in the beginning, like "British Raid" or "Fort Capuzzo". But also overall great design.
I followed the shortest path: chosed the wrong difficulty for me (General) and had too much prestige at hand.
I already have plans to replay the campaign, with some more restrictive rules
Had lots of fun with it. I especially liked the smaller and/or defensive scenarios in the beginning, like "British Raid" or "Fort Capuzzo". But also overall great design.
I followed the shortest path: chosed the wrong difficulty for me (General) and had too much prestige at hand.

This mod is so great!!! A full game of its own!!!

While patiently waiting for the Stalingrad branch of the Soviet campaign I also went back to this campaign. Playing the Italians is my second favourite to playing the Soviets - very interesting unit mix, even in vanilla: good to excellent fighters, indifferent bombers, bad tanks (the P26 helps, but it comes too late and is too weak for a "final" upgrade), wonderful recce in the Sahariana, interesting AT in 1943. Like most campaigns this suffers from the fact that after a point the Italians become auxiliaries to much stronger German units. Even consciously aiming to keep the Italian percentages high will get you so far. SE units (even for the Italian flag - Stukas, 110s and 109s are all "Italian" SE units here) tend to be German. And after 1943 it takes a brave player to stick to P26s rather than Panthers and Semoventes (even the 90mm one) instead of Jagdpanthers! The alternative is to go with a "fantasy" equipment file like Italia Victor, but I don't much like these files. Since Italy dropped out of the war in 1943 we are stuck with this problem.
Anyway, the campaign itself is fantastic in its mix of scenarios. After Alamein I find that my core got too power, not to mention that I already had 50+5 units (with all the gifts/capturables) by the endgame which forced me to leave as many as 15 units to the side on deployment. I like deploying everything I have (I'm weird, I know!). But up to Alamein it's a good, strong challenge, especially before the Germans get to be too numerous. The 40-41 scenarios are my favourite since the units are neither overexperienced nor technologically very strong. It makes the "rock, paper, scissors" part of Panzer Corps/General even better: the British have the weird split between fragile but powerful cavalry tanks and tough but slow infantry ones, plus the weird portees and you have to really plan how to face them. While in the air your Italian planes are very decent (even pre-Veltro/Centauro) but have a miserable range. So, again you have to plan.
Great fun campaign. Now, back to waiting for more Soviets

Interesting to read your thoughts, Imp. Afrika Korps was my favourite official DLC, and although I haven't played Nico's version yet, it's high on my list. I'm currently playing the official GC East, and also Nico's "Italy goes PzC" but keep getting distracted by life and other things! GC East has become a bit of a grind so I'm having a break from it. I've been following this thread with interest (as with all Nico's mods) and looking forward to playing it, so it was great to read your thoughts on it. Cheers.
