Community Crate - Any Submissions?

Post by Shards »

Hi,

After Erik's appearance on What's Your Mod last week (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1863953785) and with a new patch brewing away, it seems like a good time to ask if people have any stable content that they'd like to submit to be in the in-game community crate?

That's anything from Mods to Skins to Campaigns to both single and multiplayer maps.

Ideally it's something that's stable as I have only limited time to update things going forwards!

Please let me know suggestions in this thread? And maybe let others know if there's a piece of content that you'd like to recommend?

Thanks!

The Third Infantry Campaign is in the crate already, but despite following all the previous forums I don't have a custom button on the single/campaign screen. I have located the file, unzipped it, placed in appropriate file folder. All the scenarios downloaded from the crate installed correctly. Why can't campaigns be treated the same way or on the map would be even better. When the official Battle of Brittan MOD came out it was installed with zero problems and prompts at the launch. I am using the new 2023 latest version.

Thanks!

So, I have started a new game using the 3rd ID download, (top right box on main menu). There is a slight trick to getting it to work, once downloaded and unpacked, go into the main 3rd ID folder, there you will see another main folder, copy that and bring it out to the main folder (Documents\My Games\Order of Battle - WW2\Campaigns). Then when you load the game, choose custom campaigns.

(Cited from a steam discussion thread. Hope it helps you.)

I know it won't happen (for valid reasons) because I've suggested it before, but in a perfect world The Russian Campaign by Parreigo would be more than welcome. Just a little something to demonstrate to players exactly how BEEG this game and its maps can get. And you never know, some folks out there might actually enjoy it too! ;)

It's a massive map. Like, really massive. To be honest nothing else even comes close. We're talking hundreds of units for each side. Land, sea and air. From Berlin in the west to Moscow in the East. Now for someone with no life like me those things are a plus. Doesn't hurt I'm pretty good at the map too, heh. But for most players they don't want to get anywhere near something which can easily take two hours per turn and with a turn limit of 120.

All that said my initial qualifier of it never happening was a pretty transparent attempt at psychological manipulation to make it being adopted more likely ;)

So your right this scenario is massive! What a work of art! I am almost tempted to take up your offer but I am booked.

There's another great 1 vs 1 map called "The Pacific War", but I think it was removed in favour of a 2 vs 2 map. It's similar scale but almost entirely naval (some decent fighting on land in the northern hong kong area and southern indonesian areas though). Well naval and air of course. The thing I liked about it was how it took place over the course of the entire war so upgrading units was actually pretty important, especially with aircraft. It's a lot more approachable than The Russian Campaign because far fewer units and it proceeds more quickly. And it's very well balanced I'd say. If anything there's a tendency towards stalemate but an extremely fun one in my opinion. Also it's quite rare for submarines to play a useful role in Order of Battle and this is a welcome exception. They aren't pivotal by a long shot but with patience they can be surprisingly important.

Thanks for the history there. Maybe one day I might be brave enough to even try this monster.

How is his Desert War scenario?

Its called Road to Egypt.

He also has one on Stalingrad 42, I wonder if these two smaller ones might be more manageable?

I can see his East Front one would be great for team play if that was possible.

You can have a maximum of 4 players (humans or a mix of humans/AI).
But I think an East Front multiplayer would benefit from a modded game.
I have posted a few East Front 2v2 scenarios in my MicroMod (wich includes 2 Germany/Wehrmacht and 2 Soviet/USSR factions).

I'm a little hesitant about 2 vs 2 games because of the difficulty finding players, but that aside they're absolutely a welcome addition. Loads of amazing player made maps out there.
