now :D is a BG of light foot who are evading and they roll a 6 giving them a 7 inch move, this means that both ranks partially interpenetrate the :P column of chariots. Now the rules appear to suggest that both rows are placed behind the whole column of chariots. Is this correct.

OK, it was friday night. Any base that gets partially through passes all the way through. Bases that don't reach stay on the other side.

That makes sense when the interpenetrating lines are generally parallel, like so ( = evaders; 8) = passed thru):

8)8)8)8)8)8)

In the OP, the BG would be interpenetrated by the middle of the evading line. How do you resolve the "some pass through/rest stay" situation when the evading BG will end up split so widely.

8)
8)
8)
8)
8)

Is that still the right outcome?

Yup. This is when I get hit in the rear by the enemy and get the royal treatment. Then my lights refuse to break, tying up some very useful BG for several rounds.
