Storm Over Europe (Mod): Clouds of War

Hello, I'm Gnosport. I'm a play tester for Storm Over Europe. I have also written the Cache, Commendation Guides for SCW and 1939 campaigns. I've also helped a bit on research for heroes, battles, and mapping out scenarios in 1940 Part 1 and 1940 Part 2.

This is going to mostly be a picture guide to missions, with some commentary here and there.

Storm Over Europe is a bit more difficult than the base Panzer Corps 2 and Axis Operations experience.

Positive Traits: Panzer General, Trophies of War, Killer Team, Auxiliary Force
Negative Traits: Denied Air Force, Denied Artillery, Slow Modernization
Other Rules: Limited Stock (15) - this does provide a limited stock of air force and artillery, since rules don't take effect until second scenario.

Convoy of Victory

This is an optional scenario but highly recomennded for the commedation points, which you will want for next scenario the Battle of Guadiana. This is an air-only mission.

Started at 9503 Prestige, after reinforcing went down to 8572.

With my limited stock before denied airforce took over, bought 1 Ar 68 and 1 He 50, reducing me to 8272 Prestige. In this scenario you get your first use of Italian planes, which are a lot better than what you start off with.

This scenario is really a lot of fun and frustrating. Your destroyers can be used as baits to lure out enemy ships and planes. You don't need to move transports until it is safe.

Battle of the Guadiana

Though Convoy of Victory is an optional scenario, it is important. Here you are able to exchange 4 CP for some Italian CR.32 fighters or for 19 Heinkel He 112 fighters. I typically choose the He 112 as it has slightly better stats.

I started off with 10772 prestige, upgraded a few units and bought some Italian auxiliary forces.

Started off with 14738, purchased 1 152mm M10/30 and upgraded 3 Panzer 1As to Trubias. Auxiliary Force of 1 Infantry, 1 Cavalry, 1 L3/33, 1 L3/35 and 1 Lancia IZM purchased.

Overall, this is a pretty defensive scenario.

Started off with 17654 prestige. Upgraded 2 Panzer 1A to BT-5s. Auxiliary Force of 1 Infantry, 1 Cavalry, 2 L3/33, 2 L3/35, and 2 Lancia IZM, reducing prestige to 16629.

After playing a defensive minded battle, this is a fun offensive one.

One of the quality of life improvements that will be introduced in the next update of Storm Over Europe is the briefing images and historical heroes now have portraits in color.

Captured 16 UNL-35, 10 BT-5, 4 122mm M10/30, 2 Bilbao (AC), 10 75mm Vickers M31 (AA), 10 20mm M33 (AA), 22 37mm M1930 (AT), 10 Trubia, 2 105mm Vickers M22, and an additional 29 UNL-35 armored cars from a cache.

Siege of the Alcazar

Starting Prestige: 19480.

Traded in 3 Commendation Points for 19 BT-5 and 19 T-26 M1939.

Current stockpile of captured equipment includes 35 BT-5s, 19 T-26 M1939s, 16 Trubias, 42 UNL-35 (AC), 2 Bilbao (AC), 20 37mm M1930 (AT), 30 20mm M33 (AA), 28 75mm Vickers M31 (AA), 4 203mm M1931 (ART), 36 122mm M10/30 (ART), 16 152mm M10/30 (ART), and 19 152mm M1938 (ART).

Ended up upgrading 1 Trubia to an overstrength T-26 M1939 and upgrading 2 armored cars to UNL-35s.

Auxiliary Force: 1 Infantry, 1 Cavalry, 1 L3/33, 1 L3/35, and 1 Lancia IZM, reducing prestige to 17041.

Though the scenario goes on longer, victory was assured by Turn 15. Just suppressed enemy attacks with artillery.

Oviedo

This is another optional scenario but is highly recommended. In this scenario, the Nationalists and the Italian CVT needs assistance in escorting a supply convoy to Oviedo. In the meantime, the Nationalist control of Gijon is being contested. If you regain the city, you will be rewarded with a special token to get a special tank.

Starting Prestige is 19536. Upgraded remaining 3 tanks from Trubias to BT-5s reducing prestige to 18388.

Since time is of the essence to attempt to regain control of Gijon, I did not spend time forcing enemy units to surrender. Did still end up capturing 8 76.2mm M31, 8 Trubias, and 6 20mm M33.

Thanks for showcasing the mod in this form, I am now tempted and will just need to figure out the details of making it work with the GOG copy... or maybe get the Steam version for safe mod setup on a parallel installation?

I'm not too sure how GOG works. I don't think you'd be disappointed, the scenarios offer different challenges and a lot gamey than AO.

Starting Prestige: 22866

Note, on current version text states 3 CP for 30 Panzer IIA however 5 CP is deducated. This is fixed for later, 3 CP will be deducted.

Purchased: 1 152mm M1938, 1 BT-5, 2 Panzer IIA, 1 UNL-35, 2 3.7cm Flak 18, 1 3.7cm Pak 36 and 1 Panzer 1 Flame-tank.

A lot of defensive positions around the university is making the task difficult.

More enemy units appear, the decision is made to withdraw.

Lines before retreat across the river and hold onto defensive positions until the end of the scenario.

By holding a defensive line which was flexible, I could lure the enemy into a getting surronded and losing equipment. Captured 26 BT-5, 22 75mm Vickers M31, 38 T-26 M1939, 20 12mm M10/30, and 6 BA-6.

In addition, captured a cache which had 19 I-16, 26 I-16 Type 10 (fighters) and 21 Tuploev tactical bombers.

Battle of the Corunna Road

Close but no cigar. The Spanish Civil War continues and the Condor's Legion time aiding the Nationalist goes on. We have our first briefing with the Nationalist leader, Franco.



Starting prestige: 25262

Upgraded 1 tactical bomber to newly captured Tuploev SB. Upgraded 2 fighters who were using He 51A to I-16 Type 10s.

Employed an Auxiliary Force of: 1 L3/33, 1 L3/35, 1 M11/39, 1 Lancia IZM, 1 Cavalry and 1 Infantry.

For 10 commendation points, we have an opportunity to get our first super hero.



Starting Prestige: 31890.

Upgraded 3 BT-5s to T-26 M1939s.

Purchased a 6th artillery unit equipped with 152mm M10/30. Disbanded 2 3.7cm Flak 18 because low experience and purchased a unit equipped with 75mm Vickers M31.
