What is the "-ve" in so many unit descriptions?

Field of Glory II is a turn-based tactical game set during the Rise of Rome from 280 BC to 25 BC.

Can't find this abbreviation or mechanic in the manual. Something separate from Points of Advantage?

"-ve" = "negative".

In the unit info boxes, the term is usually found on the "Troop Type" line, and refers to a negative Cohesion Test (CT) modifier when the unit has to do a CT (a.k.a. "morale check").

It's abbreviated this way because of the limited space available in the info boxes.

For example, medium foot (also bowmen, warriors, light foot and mob) which have to perform a CT as a result of close combat against heavy foot or mounted opponents in open terrain has a -1 modifier to its dice roll, making it more likely to fail the test.

For a complete table of Cohesion Test modifiers, see page 86 of the manual. This includes modifiers due to suffering casualties from being shot at by missile weapons.

Thanks. Would be nice if the -ve shorthand was mentioned in the manual.
