Hi Folks-
I have the game on easy and, after for attempts, I still lose. In the old version I could win on hard almost every time. It seems like the computer is just too efficient and builds more of everything, and starts more towns than I ever could. Anyone else have the same experience? Any tips? Any plans to tweek the AI so that EASY is actually easy?
Veteran MOM player cannot win on Easy mode ?!?!?!

My guess it that you are probably playing very tall while neglecting your army and not expanding to make or take other cities fast enough. You don't need to carpet the map to win but having a core of several cities that are defended is key to make sure you don't fall too far behind. Also if you pick Myrran you are safe for a longer period of time. Also you could look in to playing against only 1 or 2 enemy wizards.MeleeMagnet wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 3:00 pm Hi Folks-

On EASY ???
I am a veteran of the original, and am adapt at expanding my empire. IMO, the AI is too powerful on EASY. EASY should in fact, be easy to win.
Thanks for the tips, but that is already part of my strategy and preferences.
Please give my feedback some consideration. I doubt I am alone in my struggle.

I agree that the AI is definitely stronger than the old game's. On easy, it's probably harder than the original game on impossible. Better AI was arguably the most requested thing for the old game. So much so that a modded version was made because of this (Caster of Magic). Aside from diplomacy, the only other AI difference between the difficulty levels is the inability for it to use higher level spells the lower the difficulty. The rest is free stuff given to the AI with more at higher difficulties (similar to the old game).MeleeMagnet wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 6:31 pm On EASY ???

The AI in the old game was extremely bad and the new game is quite decent. The new AI is very city expanding hungry which in general is a top strategy in MoM, both new and old versions. The one huge weak spot it does have right now is very poor city defense, especially its capitols that I've found often guarded by only 1-3 units. However I doubt the devs will change the AI to be even weaker as there are likely even more people who say the AI is too weak but yes some have said it's too strong, even, "veterans" of the old game.

Re: Veteran MOM player cannot win on Easy mode ?!?!?!
I finally beat the game on EASY! It took 5 tries, but finally did it.
The EASY setting on this version is MOM is at least ADVANCED in the old game.
The AI seems about the same to me...it still has my ranged fighters going to melee with opponents it does not to melee with.
I cannot say how much fun, and nostalgic it has been playing this game. Thank You for making this retro style game.
Now to win with more opponents.

As a veteran of the game myself, I didn't find it much harder than the original, and I play on maximum difficulty exclusively as I did in the original. What spellbooks and retorts are you using? What's your general strategy (turtling rushing, expanding, etc)? Warlord and life magic is generally the easiest. Add Myrran to that to make it even easier at the cost of a couple life books.
The biggest difference between this and the original is that the AI has been adapted from Caster of Magic rather than the original. that means that your enemies are omniscient. They know where all your cities are, and how many troops you have in each city. That means that you have to adjust your strategy accordingly at times, because they AI cheats, but it's not actually smarter. Have your city with the most troops move the troops to an adjacent square. Then the AI will send troops to attack that city. Once you've lured them close enough, you can destroy them.
