Hi all,
I would appreciate some help with an 800 point Later Crusader army so any and all feedback about the army would be great.
This is what I have come up with so far.
IC - 80pts
2 x TC 70pts
2 BG's @ 4 bases Mil Order Knights (Kn, Ha, Sup, drilled, lance, swordsmen) 208 pts
1 BG @ 4 bases other Knights (Kn, Ha, Sup, undrilled, lance, swordsmen) 92 pts
1 BG @ 8 bases Mil Order Spear (HF, Arm, Av, drilled, def spear) 72 pts
1 BG @ 8 bases other Spear (HF, Arm, Av, undrilled, def spear) 64 pts
1 BG @ 6 bases other Xbow (MF, Protec, Av, undrilled, Xbow) 36 pts
Bedouin Allies.
TC 25pts
2 BG's @ 4 bases Other Bedouin Cavalry (LH, Unprotec, undrilled, lancer, swordsmen) 64 pts
Total = 711 pts.
I am not really sure what else I should add but have come up with some ideas:
1) Add more knights.
2) Add some Turcopoles (Cav, Protec, Av, drilled, bow*, Lt spear, swordsmen).
3) Add some more foot.
4) Take a fortified camp.
5) Change foot to mixed formations of 1/2 spear & 1/2 Xbow. BG's of 4 spear & 4 Xbow. Are they worth it?
6) Maybe increase horse BG's sizes.
Cheers,

Hi
Well IMO I'd get rid of the IC and take 1 TC's an IC will help against shooting but apart from the crossbows your on a five to hit, and you should'nt place a IC in comba were as you will with a TC.
3 BG's Knights is plenty considering you have 89 + 45 points(saved from taking General) points left I would take more spears/ or more allies.

I'm not an expert of this period, anyway I think this advices can be useful.
Knight are your force of attack, they need a straight path of clear ground, so I would get them undrilled for the most part. I would get 2 BG undrilled and 1 drilled, because you would can have needing a BG of troops which you can control better for specific duties. Drilled troops are useful when you make CMT, for example if you want not to charge with shock troops. If you don't want to charge with your knights 9 out of 10 you made a tactical error, so better to learn from own errors and go with undrilled.
Bedouin LH lance sword are skirmisher hunters and 2 BG perhaps are too much. I found that Fatimid have such kind of troops, but also many other very interesting, so if you plan to use an ally I would give them a chance. For example they have a great cavalry bow sword, which gives you an interesting alternative tactical option. More, you can also field LH bow sword (Turcoman) which can be used both to skirmish and also to hunt enemy skirmishers (they are swordsmen and the most part of skirmishers lack this skill so you have an advantage in melee).
At last, I would add some LF, for example some bow armed from Fatimid. Since they are LF you can also set up far away from their general because you will have few occasion to make a CMT. Alternatively, you would can get a BG of MF bow armed; this latter choice will give you more fire power, but a bit less tactical option: LF can also screen other troops, can harass enemy evading and then coming back to threat, not only shooting.

Thanks guys.
For the allies I have decided to go with the Syrian States list as it offers more flexibility than the others. I am still making lots of different lists to see how it pans out.
Also just another question about the Special Campaigns list for Richard I, Do the mixed spear/Xbow formations replace the minimums required in the main list?

As far as I know they do. BTW keep us posted as to how you find the Army.
