Reference Book advice
Been looking into building the Anglo-Welsh army that invaded Scotland in 1297-8 for Middle Plantaganet English (Oath of Fealty) under Edward I.
Can anyone suggest a good reference book I can refer to for armour, dress, colours or weaponry - preferably with a few illustrations - for a decent guide please?
Jer

I have Sir Charles Oman's 'The Art of War in the Middle Ages' which is useful for the tactics & strategy for defeating the Welsh & Scots, & the names of the Commanders of each battle - albeit at Stirling Bridge, the Commander who should have been strung up as a example of incompetency
.....
but sadly it lacks detail in armour, specific weaponry or heraldry
The Battle of Stirling Bridge & Falkirk by Pete Armstrong seems promising, is it accurate & give much detail?
The Scottish & Welsh Wars by Dick Pothero doesn't seem to have had a very positive response, is that warranted?
Do the 'English Medieval Knights 1200-1300 cover the Foot much?
Edward seems to have valued the Marcher Welshry almost above everything bar the Knights & Cavalry, certainly the English Foot appear to be negligeable in numbers. So detail on the Infantry is a must

I have Ian's book on The Middle Ages Vol. 1 , which is indeed the dogswotsitsnames - was chiefly my guide for doing Low Countries & SantaHermanthingummybob armies.
The Expensive I take for granted, his books tend to the top table so tend to cost more sadly. Might be gettable on Amazon, I'll have a gander in a bit, cheers for the advice

Arrived this morning;
I'd guess at Vol. 1 since the Print date is 1977 - a good omen, perhaps
You're not wrong about the later Vol. being more expensive - nearly 60 quid!!!
I think I'll stick with the early version *s*
Am also considering 'The Welsh Wars of Edward I' by HE Morris, which Ian Heath refers to in glowing terms, & appears to cover everything in excellent detail, & the preview on amazon looks a cracking read too! Does anyone else have this book?
