Game won't launch on Steam or the standalone download from Slitherine

I have a Windows 10 Home PC with a Ryzen 5 2600, GTX 2060, 16 GB of RAM, and when I press play in the Steam launcher window, the window closes but the game does not start. I've attempted installing new graphics drivers, restarting, and file verification. We would appreciate any assistance.

The standalone file that I downloaded separately from Steam also failed to launch.

I am having issues with Field of Glory 2 multiplayer, I cannot log onto MP and accessing the main Slitherine website (and its sister site Matrix) I managed to get on the forums (obviously...).

FOG Medi is fine for me, but a friend is having issues.

Over the past week or two I've had trouble with multiplayer Field of Glory II. At first I no longer got email notifications that it is my move (nor did my opponent), but we could still play. More recently the game just won't allow either player to submit a new move. Is there a server problem? Not getting the service I expected and unable to play multiplayer.
