First of all, thanks for the answer, I would've answered yesterday but the light went off at night, because some old lady had a leak in her pipes on the 13th floor. That's what I wanted to hear. Why did those skirmishes happened (for example, as you say, foraging parties, guys looking for materials ...

Skirmishes in the Ancient and Medieval world

Hi everyone Well, first of all, I'm sorry if this is a little offtopic, but it's something I need to ask, and really I haven't found information about it anywhere, so, maybe one of you guys may guide me, or at least point me in the right direction. I've been wondering about skirmishes in the ancient...

I guess I was a bit slow with the mist joke , but english is not my first language I like the idea of reducing each BG by 2 bases. It would leave "horde" or "barbarian" armies with mostly 6 bases per BG, and still increase the total number of BGs by a lot. So, what about dou...

We tried this in 400, halving all minima with the proviso that a bg cannot be smaller than a minimum 4 if that was the full minimum. And mini-fog should be called mist. So, you used smaller BGs than normal... did it worked? I didn't got that last part :P So, what do you think about it? Is it viable...

Mini FoG?

Hi everyone Well, I've been thinking that creating something like a Mini FoG could be a new way, maybe a good one, to introduce new players to the game. Maybe you have some friends who like it, but don't like to spend so much money on miniatures, maybe they play other games (DBA, Warhammer, whatever...

Thanks for the comments! Well, about the first modification, I like the idea of two units of 4, I just thought that maybe 6 LH could take on 4s very easily, so they would be useful neutralizing enemy light cavalry... About the Scutarii, well, they'd be holding terrain, and they're really good at tha...

Well, thanks for moving it. I thought it should be in General Discussion because maybe it's about the army itself, the tactics, the different uses of the troops and all that, and maybe it could be in General, but now I think you're right. So, you say this army has a learning curve, and at first it m...

Carthaginian Army

Well, It's me again, now with a new topic to discuss about the Carthaginian Army. I see this army as a very versatile combined arms, with some very powerful units. Excellent skirmishers, pretty good line troops (the option to use Hannibal's veterans makes the African Spearmen one of the best line un...

The thing with the 'upgraded' or drilled Thracians is that... they're not really Thracians  , at least that's what I think. I mean, I would prefer to use the non Roman Client Kingdom version of this guys. So, 14 bases of Skirmishers would be one BG of 8 and one BG of 6... maybe 18 bases could b...

I dont think you should have a battle plan dependant on shooting with a thracian army. Youve got 4 BGs of LH and 5 of LF which IMO is way too many skirmishers. this forces your MF into front line troops with no left over MF to harass flanks. Can you take a mix of MF with HW and MF wit LtSp/Sw and t...

Thanks everyone for all the replies :D , and I'm glad to read that some of you like Thracians too. In fact I've always loved hairy barbarians... the thing is that they are never really effective under wargaming rules, but I use them anyway. Special thanks for the reply about Rear Support, I'm pretty...

Thracian Army

Hi everyone Well I am currently very interested in this army. I like the Heavy Weapons, the MF Offensive Spearmen, and of course, all their miniatures, their culture, and everything. The thing is that I'm not so sure about their FoG performance. I mean, barbarian armies aren't usually that good, and...

Well, hahaha, I never expected so much comments :D Thanks to everyone, really. I'm not decided yet, although I've solved my question about the Varangians, poor Lombards  I like the idea of morphing into another army later, and as Sadista said, I think (maybe I'm wrong) that the Ayyubids are mor...

Thanks for the reply, Hammy. I'm glad to hear that the Varangians are actually tough. Sometimes it happens that, in this games, some units (specially elite ones), although being good, are a little overpriced. But well, I'll use them anyway, so :D So which one do you prefer? Komnenans or Nikephorians...

Deciding between this two...

Hi everyone Well, I'm new to FoG, and I was going to decide about my army, and well, after looking through most companion books, I found that I really like two of them (actually 3, but one of them can be turned into the other with ease, i think). 1) Ayyubid Egyptian I really like them, I like the Ma...

Oh, that was my mistake, I was in a hurry, so... It was 2 BGs of 6 LF or MF archers, sorry for that :) What Benos said is OK. I have to include at least 4 bases (1 BG) of Armoured Lancers, so I wont be able to get them out of the army... althoug maybe I could screen them with LF? About the Mamluks, ...

Ayyubid Egyptians @ 600 points (25 mm)

Well, I really like this list, and I really like Saladin as a General, so I would be glad to use his army. I'm using a list very similar to the starter one, because I've got a maximum of 600 points. What I want is some advice about how to use them, when to dismount the Mamluks, how to use them in th...
