as strange as it sounds, that is all I did as far as I know. I can't think of anything else I would have done not on purpose that could have fixed it. But has a good trouble shooting technique, I will put the space back in and see what happens. It will have to wait later though

well, how do you like that. I renamed the directory so there was only one space and sure enough it launched. I believe I just let the system pick the sub directory name but I can't recall

the game has always been installed in the following directory
"D:\Games\SteamApps\common\Commander The Great War"

It is odd that there is two spaces between "Commander: and "The Great War". Any chance that would cause an issue?

running ctgw_steam_d3d.exe still doesn't launch the game successfully

Crash on start up

I have test diagdiag 64 and 32 bit. I have the latest Nvdia drivers. I have installed repaired both the 32bit and 64bit of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package I still get a crash as soon as I pick single users.
