It's actually just a practical issue...

At the moment (in my Macedonian campaign, Hard setting) I have more than 25 cities (Macedonia starts with 7)...

Those cities are not really close to each other and because you can't zoom the map I have to scroll a lot... The names (while I really like them ...

That's my main tactic as well... group my forces together (not too much though) and put them all on 'Long Hold', and when the enemy comes charging (even Light Inf in the open) I hit the charge button and the slaughter can begin...

There has only been 1 battle in which I gave my troops the 'Charge ...

Since I wrote that post I succeeded in winning a second battle against greater numbers, though this one was more in my favor...

This time I had 3 Phalangites (garrison), 2 Peltastes, 2 Thracians and 4 Psiloi Skirmishers (408 men)

vs. 16 Thracians (640 men)

I have found a way to maximise my food and silver income so I am now able to build at least 2 times as many campaigning units as before...


Result is that I have destroyed the Thracian Odryssi 's 'very large' army and took 1 of their cities (they don't have a field army ...

At this moment the Thracian Odryssi are fighting with Proto-Hoplites and so am I, so at this moment Macedonia is certainly not overpowered.

I don't succeed in building a large army to really attack an enemy, while some enemies are massing 'huge' armies to attack me... so at his moment I am ...

The thing with the Thracians ... maybe you have conquered one of their target/"scenario winning" cities.

That can be it... I checked it... and it seems those Thracian Odryssi need to hold both Pella and Thesaloniki, which are 2 of my major cities I started this campaign with...

I just wanted to share this because I was astounded by the result of this battle... Maybe some of you have already seen much more spectacular things, but I haven't....


I still play the Macedonians (first time on 'Hard' setting) and the city of Thassos (I think) on that little island was attacked ...

That can't be right...

I have a border city with a Medium Fort and I get 3 Hoplite squads to defend it when attacked...
If I would have to buy those 3 squads I would lose a lot of resources and have to spend 500 silver each turn to maintain them...

No single building slot makes that much money ...

Do you guys build a fort in every city you own ?? (even if it's just a small one) Or just in strategical places ??

That's a shame... It would have been nice if you would have been able to upgrade your units (only in cities which have the correct barracks...)
