My first test showed that it works fine. 
After analyzing the changed files of patch 1.6.5, I didn't find any changes which would interfere with the mod. Everything is ok!

Hi there, I just tried to play Pandora with EoN (the non-Steam version) on my Debian 8 x64 laptop. So I decompressed the Pandora EoN 1.50 x64 archive and started it with Binaries/Pandora. I just finished the update to version 2.4 which contains changes from the last beta patch for Pandora from 2015-12-21. There are some minor additional graphical fixes which probably nobody will notice.

There were way fewer technologies and buildings in SMAC than in Pandora, so disabling Pandora's techs and buildings and only using the SMAC ones results in a quite... empty game. This looked really not quite enjoyable. So my current idea is to pick some special buildings and their techs out of SMAC'...

You can enable weapons to be used with formers. Please have a look at the attached file. Copy it to Data\World\Weapons in your mod folder and you are now able to place a L-15 Lance cannon into your former chassis.

How to play a sound file when a technology is researched?
Is there a way to play a certain sound file when a certain technology is researched? My idea was to put an OGG file to "Data\Audio\Languages\{English,German}\name_of_technology.ogg", but this isn't doing anything. So is there a way?

You must add the description of your building to "Data\Core\Languages\{English,German}\Buildings.xml".

Ok, I see that. My question targeted the attribute "reward" on the tag <technology> - my first impression was that it has something to do with the bonus the player gets when researching that specific technology. But what exactly is this attribute doing?
