Re: Basing 6mm
Phil Barker has given basing number suggestions for small scale troops on DBx/FOG sized bases in DBMM rules, & in the draft DBA revision rules, which work pretty well. They pretty much add up to about doubling the number of figures from the 15mm numbers, on 15mm scale bases, as you suggest. Here...

I use a Crafter's Acrylic black (also from Hobbycraft) as a primer, slightly watered to flow better. I did 96 figs yesterday in about half an hour. It's dry enough to continue after an hour or so. Kevin, I'd echo BobM's comments 100%. I started out using craft acrylic paint to prep my figures, suff...

Hi I don't bother with spray. I use black gesso primer from an art shop and paint it on with a brush. only takes a minute and gets to all the nooks and crannies. It was the smell and the fact that I couldn't get full coverage with spray that made me give it up. I'm a recent convert to this too, aft...

Don't forget Feudal Castings (from LMK Direct) - slightly old fashioned single poses for the heavy infantry but still nice, and cheap to boot compared to many ranges. I understand they're recasting some of their moulds including the MRRs - at present the MRR cavalry is unavailable because of this bu...

The colour of ancient oxen...
A good friend of mine has asked me to paint a number of Chariot minis ox-carts for his Sea People army. The great thing is that the carts themselves are rough wood, and the crew are basic Peleset figures. But is there any information about the colour of the oxen - are they simply brown or might some...

For what it's worth I have a front row of hastati (with the traditional bronze pectoral) and a back row of principes (in mail) to represent my midrepublican BGs - as stated above, the scale of the game essentially means a number of maniples are represented by a BG (so the visual effect of the 2 line...

Spookily I'm spending some of my lunch hour at work cleaning up a couple of bags of samnite allies by Warmodelling (Fantassin) - very nice figures, more standard Xyston size than standard Essex. Can be seen at: warmodelling.com or warmodelling.co.uk Another option is Feudal Casting from LMK/Quick Re...

Hopefully this message (which i posted to the Miniatures Page) might be of some help, although it doesnt completely address your question: Have just got a few packs of these figures via a friend who picked them up at Salute. First look – nice sculpting with good figure proportions. Metal is rather l...

A good art supply store will have technical pens. They come in a variety of colors. They have a very sturdy, fine point that can be used for making eyes. Although I only use them on 25/28/32mm figures. A quick, light tap with the pen and you have a nice round pupil. Agree entirely - here's a 28mm F...

All terribly symbolic I'm afraid - lightning relates, IIRC, to Iupitter and laurel wreath is, of course, for victory. Is there any rigid standard to this? In other words, does a black shield with a laurel design mean something different than a red shield with the lightning design as far as the troo...
