PentaCon is a small con, but it used to be much larger. It runs Fri-Sat, with a good mix of historical minis, non-historical minis, and RPGs. Its about the only thing going in northern IN gaming-wise this time of year. Who knows, maybe we could make it the biggest FoG con in the midwest! Here's the ...

There's a group of noobs in South Bend looking for some mentoring as well. We've played a few games through with proxy armies and have the gist of the rules down, but we really need someone familiar with the rules to go over a few points with us (mainly POA's). Indianapolis is a bit of a drive for u...

For ordering minis from Essex or Legio Heroica, how is the shipping to the United States? Does it take as long as advertised? Do the minis usually arrive with a lot of bent up pieces (lances & standards, especially)? Are there any problems with delivery or packages getting lost (I've heard enou...

For seige warfare rules, I would suggest reading the works of Christopher Duffy on the subject.

Mithras wrote:There is also one other reference (maybe it's Matyszak in this place? Don't have my copy available for immediate reference.) that argues they fought quite fiercely, being unwilling to be taken captive by their former countrymen.
Most likely because they were executed for desertion upon capture!

Yeah, your problem that you are holding the spray too far away from the minis. The spray is drying in mid air and clumping up, making a rough bumpy surface. Try holding the can a little closer to the figs (8-12 inches) and priming on cool, dry nights. Also, I use Tamiya "fine" or "ext...

Just a few thoughts, for what they are worth. One thing to keep in mind, and reinforced by the recent book on Mithridates (by Matyszak), is that Mithridates (and indeed all of the Pontic kings) had a seemingly inexhaustible supply of wealth. The army was extremely well equipped by the standards of ...

Thanks, that was the kind of info I was looking for! Would weapons have been steel, or would you still see some bronze implements? Specifically for blades like swords and falxes (falxi?).

Bump. Ok, so I'm going to start applying color shortly and I still have some general questions. First off, armor. Would iron/steel have been common enough at this time to paint the cataphracts and other armored figures as such? Secondly, clothing. Were there any particular colors that I should use o...

So, will there be alternate lists for the major different North American indigens? I don't understand why every South/Central American subculture has been broken out by family group, but all of North America gets lumped together. For instance, there are big differences between Navajo and Souix. The...

My advice, stay away from wood and use foam. If you're not the DIY type, put down the timber saw and pick up a hot foam knife. Less mess, you can do it indoors (ventilated) and it will be a lot easier to transport.

Yep the title says it all. Will anyone from the forum be at GenCon this year? I didn't see any events in the offical listing. Maybe we could meetup for an impromptu game?

Steel bases can be found pretty easily in the states. I purchase mine from www.warweb.com. They even come cut in sizes suitable for FOG.

I'm partial to steel for 28mm WWII figs, I think they would be even better in 15mm. Thin, heavy, resistant to wear, and SQUARE. Plus, you can use magnetic sheeting in your storage trays for easy transport.

If you want to spend money that badly, I can sell you some!

Seriously though, you could probably make them for cheap with some cardboard.
