Re: Early Swedes ... Cannot Be Beat

What I've read of the Swedish losses during the TYW seemed to all have two common elements ... A. Enemy deployed in well-fortified positions. B. Swedish commanders -- especially Gustav -- overconfident from previous victories, & perhaps too trusting of "divine intervention." The first ...

Re: Ottoman Turks and Early 17th Century Russian, Worth it?

FWIW, the one time I got a chance to play my Early Ottomans against Early Austrian Imperials, it was a close-run fight, but what hampered me more than any other factor was my own poor deployment, a couple of critical tactical errors forced by the poor deployment, & lack of rules knowledge. For e...

Re: Imjin War Koreans

Thanx ... yes, indeed, the Eurekas are very pretty, & since I can order them individually, they're a good bet. We'll probably end up going with them, when I finally get around to this project ... but other projects have now jumped up in my face & the Koreans need to be put off until I think ...

San Jose, CA?

I do have some opponents in the area, but due to real life issues we can't play as often as I would like. I currently have Early Ottoman Turks & Early TYW Danes, though the Danes need about a day's worth of finishing work & a camp stand. I also have a suitable "game room" here at t...

Re:

I also find it frustrating that most Ottoman Cav figures are cast with lances While I haven't actually *seen* them, Essex has 2 Ottoman codes -- RNO29 & RNO29a, I believe -- which are described as "sipahi with bow." One of the two codes, I'm not sure which, is on armored horses, so co...

Re: 800pts Later Ottoman Turks

I agree with Stephen Callahan. Additionally, in my experience Poor Azap foot is worthless; if you can avoid using them, do so -- if you can't, put them behind FF, or do your best to get them onto a flank or rear, or leave them in your own rear as "camp guards." As for battlegroup size, I f...

Re: Bedouin and Arabs

This might be a dumb question, but ... I've got a ton of Essex & Old Glory Arabs from the Conquest/Empire period ... how badly unsuitable are they for the Settled States period?

Imjin War Koreans

Any advice on purchasing minis for this army, assembling a suitable list for opposing Japanese & Ming Chinese, & tactical tips would be very much appreciated. My only knowledge of this period is what's written in the Colonies & Conquest book, & the Wiki article on the war itself. If ...

Re: Late Ottoman Sipahi & PTG Russians

What about the minis from Essex REN116 or so -- I think that's the code -- which are horsemen with turbans & arquebus? I'd seen them but had largely discounted them on the grounds they don't appear to be armored, but if they'd otherwise be suitable I'll grab some of them too. Again, many thanx f...

Re: Late Ottoman Sipahi & PTG Russians

Thank you, I hadn't thought of using the Essex Russians for the purpose, but now that you mention it I don't see why not. I knew about the OG SYW Turks, but didn't think they'd be appropriate for the late 17th century. If they are, excellent. I didn't know about the Vexillia, & will have to chec...

Re: Late Ottoman Sipahi & PTG Russians

OK, at least I've found what appear to be suitable minis for PTG -- Blue Moon 15mm has what appear to be some very nice castings.

Still have no idea where to look for late Ottoman sipahi, though :(

Re: Need a C16th army

I'd second the suggestions of Late Imperial Austrians or Moghul.

Early Swedes might be fun, too, as well as somewhat different.

Late Ottoman Sipahi & PTG Russians

I'm looking for miniatures suitable for late (1680-1725-ish) Ottoman sipahi -- preferrably with carbines & pistols & so on. Also, suggestions on miniatures appropriate for Peter the Great's Russian army throughout his reign -- I've looked at the Essex offerings, but even though many of them ...
