All my true 25mm and smaller stuff is all metal, but for kitbashing and working with, I prefer plastic. It's just soooo much easier to work with.

"It seems like Light Spear covers what might be Heavy Weapons for mounted. Probably. We haven't defined any such troops yet." Seems to mean that the only function for mounted is to use a "long pointy stick". Either spear or lance - and I was trying for other interpretations. hmm...

Ge and Ji classifications

In an effort to stop hijacking another thread and to continue the discussion... Background: While many weapons in European history are easy to classify due to their familiarity in Western culture, it does leave some of us Asiaphiles with a bit of problem trying to shoehorn some of the more esoteric ...

Well for simplicity's sake you can class the weapon in the way you want the unit to perform. These games really don't have huge granularity in their detail. The Ji in particular, when you look at it 1:1 can be used in a myriad of ways. It could be a pike, a halberd, an axe, used to stap, slash, hook...

Interesting. When (in the fullness of time) you get to the Warring States, Ch'in and Han armies of China then the subject of the dagger-axe (ge) or the later dagger-axe with speartip (ji) will rear it's ugly head. This was used extensively by foot, horse and chariot forces. In other rulesets it is ...

If the unit is Routing and the pursuing units catch it, it's not an Impact, but just a contact while Pursuing. You remove one stand from the Routed unit and the it Routes normally in the JAP. If the pursuing units catch it again, remove a stand. Rinse and repeat

Re: 50:50 bow and spear units??

if you had a unit with 2 bases of light spear and 2 bases of bow how would it deploy? I am guessing 2 light spear in front rank and 2 bow behind. How do these then fight? Am I right in guessing front rank fight in impact and rear rank shoot. Then in melee all ranks fight effectively as if they had ...

Re: Huns

We accept the view that steppe nomad culture was fairly consistent and that steppe nomad armies were highly flexible in their deployment and tactical options. Hence all steppe nomad "light horse archers" in FOG get a free choice of being LH, Unprotected, Bow, Swordsmen Cavalry, Unprotecte...

As for my earlier post on chariots - this url is what got me thinking. For as long as I have been wargaming, the whole bit of chariots crashing into a line of steel points never "felt" right - horses aren't that witless: http://warandgame.blogspot.com/2008/02/chariot-tactics-in-bronze-age...

The influence of Han China on Korea through their Commandaries is noticeable in pictures from their museums. I just got some books from museums in North Korea. One picture of relics from 100BC was a crossbow. A mural from the Koguryo cave paintings show armored warriors of 600AD. The noble is in a ...

Have watched one game, and just played in another so very hazy on actual rules. But as a point of clarification, the Chinese "ji" or dagger-axe was NOT a halbard - it had a point and was used as a spear versus infantry or horse, but the dagger part was a curved hook not an axe head as on ...

I'm not sure about the lance either. I'm going on WRG 6th and 7th edition classification, which may or may not be a good source of information! I guess we'll just have to see what the powers that be decide! They're a good place for what gamers expect out of the army. And from some quick glances thr...

The problem is this creates a super list. One of the legacy of other rules is the dangers of allowing too much flexiblity creates super lists, i expect the FoG folks to eschew this for that reason. I'm not sure what you mean by "super list". It's not like a Sci Fi or Fantasy game where yo...
