The way the definitions are worded I don't believe the tercio is enfiladed, but as Don says, it's academic. P 172 "Enfilade: Artillery shooting at a target from a position where, if the artillery were battle troops in charge range, it could deliver a lethal flank charge." P 79 "Early ...

Am I correct in thinking this is also legal: Aq Pk Aq ----Pk ----Pk ----Sw The rule on p. 33, 3rd bullet says Other battle groups must have their shot bases as equally divided as possible between two single files, one on either side of the pike rectangle. Exception--if the battle group includes no m...

I'll second classical Indian. I'd also suggest MRR: tunics are no harder to paint than skin. Unless you could come up with a naked army that meets your foot+not terrible+ not more terrible out of period you'll have some clothes; waist down or all-body clothing makes little or no difference in the ma...

I paint one or two units at a time, depending on type. I'm more likely to paint two mounted units at a time because there are fewer figures per unit (and to get it over with...) I usually paint the entire army (or most of it) sequentially, rather than mixing in other units. That said, I do add units...

There was a thread from last year, it's here http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5610&highlight=italian+condotta Hammy posted this: You can take up to two of your generals from the main list as allies and they will thus cost 10 points less but will be limited to commanding their own ...

I was considering mixing Africans with various Roman types (including Roman Penal Legion figures) with added long spears. For 15mm, Xyston are nice and have open hands for your choice of weapon and shield. I doubt the Carthaginians were too picky but happy to have looted some armour.

Thanks, gents. So if I understand correctly, MF Bow wholly inside Vineyards (which have 4" visibility) and 1" from the edge can see 4" from their front corner, i.e. 3" out of the terrain.

Shooting from Terrain

Two Questions One: Can a BG shoot out of terrain (first rank only, of course) if it is within the distance defining visibility for that terrain type from the edge? e.g. troops wholly in a Forest can only be seen at 2 MU (p. 131), so if the front rank is inside a Forest and 1 MU from the edge, can it...

The notes at the end of the book prohibit mixing armor classes in the same BG unless specifically allowed by a list. Alas, this list doesn't.

IIRC, there was discussion in a previous rules set that there was documentation of a force of mixed units being used against a mounted opponent, but in only one or two instances.

I have a real problem with troops being allowed to fly across the battlefield out of the time/distance scale, and disorder doesn't correct the violation of the laws of physics.
The simple fix is if they can't make it that far, they don't. (Lights interpenetrating getting the 2 MU bonus)

I've already rebased and am looking forward to playing my Han Chinese. A whole book of MF means a whole book of reasonably set opponents with new tactics to learn. Tournament play is just a sideline--the best parts of the hobby are comradeship and history.

LF interpenetration is historically legit and without it some armies wouldn't function properly or would waste the troop type entirely. For example, Mid Republican Romans would find the velites clustering on the flanks. I would support no moving through unless there's room to make it with a +2mu. Bu...

I've played a number of battles where skirmishers with bows/slings/javelins did not do any shooting damage because their fire got split up, but they were still performing their role to delay the advance or stop second moves or try to tempt out impact foot, which seems to represent them well. With me...

The teardrop shields are later, they start showing up in the tenth century IIRC. Prevalent at the time of Fatimids. Round shields were used during the conquest period and continue through the Renaissance (though sizes and patterns vary) in use by Berbers, Bedouin, and Dailamis, among others.
