I'm not sure about how Earth to Mud works. I noticed the same thing, but I interpreted it as applying a one-time de-buff instead of making mud on the ground. It looked like all units in the area got a debuff that lasted into the following turns. That's exactly how it works. It's an AoE casting that...

I also find parts of this game a tedious annoyance, especially concerning the early A.I. It is equally if not more so obnoxious and again completely omniscient. I had to restart 4 games to get a good map and starting location on small land masses. Before I was 60 turns in I had enemy units scouting...

Am I the only one who hates how a unit wwill walk upto a town on a road, on there way to somewhere else with a road, and then that unit will tkae a deture around the town off road to get to where its going? or theres another unit on the raod, oh shit ill have to run off road to my desternation.. It's funny, we play the same game but we have radical different experience. I have yet to see a Lizard spamming, but i witness ai building ships. Lots of them. In this game naval units are the absolute worst a player can build. Been that way for almost 30 years now. I understand you would like to see added value, but imo adding value to trash is kinda pointless. Besides there are plenty of nice scouts in the game, who can go overland as well, use these ins...

The folder given to you is the right one.
It's a hidden folder.
You need to play a bit with your explorer to set it to display hidden folders/files
