Can battle lines charge/shoot, or must they break into individual BG's?

After advancing, my BG is within charging distance. Can I immediately charge the enemy, or do I wait for my next turn?

Why do Slings and Javelins not have a maximum range? I can see that the effective range is the ideal range for shooting, but how can I shoot at a target outside the effective range if no maximum distance is given?

As I understand it, commanders generally move in the manoeuvre phase, but do they have to move the full distance of LH, or can they make a partial move?

Yes my description was confusing. I rolled 8 dice to determine hits because there were 4 bases in contact and they were 2 deep, which I assumed made 4 BG's and I'm guessing was an error. The 4x2 bases all joined together should have been referenced as a single BG...right!?
