Re: unit experience

I guess this is a pet peeve of mine that I have raised before, but IMO experience is not handled realistically at all. This is driven primarily by the elite replacement mechanic, when in real life no such thing did (or could have) existed for land units except in VERY small numbers a VERY limited a...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

To be honest I've never given the 3.7 a fair shake. The lure of using the iconic 88 was too much, and it reflects reality in that it was far superior to any dedicated AT the Germans had until late war. The SPAT's before the Stug IIIF aren't reliable enough so I much prefer using the 88 in the AT ro...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

Returning to the AA topic, did I imagine it or did my bomber suffer a 1-point strength loss when attacking a tank? Maybe a recent tweak in a recent patch ? Because the same thing happened to me twice in a random scenario last night , my Italians vs. British. Two different air units took a one point...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

I don't recall this ever happening to me in PC2. Some units did have passive air attack in PC1 though, so that might be it. Indeed, I thought this was scrapped because players disliked having the tac bombers be shot at by every tank under the sun while attacking. Ships are about the only units that...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

Returning to the AA topic, did I imagine it or did my bomber suffer a 1-point strength loss when attacking a tank? (there were no AA units around). It'd certainly make sense because some tanks had a turret-roof mounted AA MG. And do some infantry have AA capability too in PC2? https://i.postimg.cc/...

Re: Postcards from the OstFront - a General-Level AAR

FINDINGS FROM THE "LEARNING" CAMPAIGN I can't imagine playing with infinite upgrades now - it's great trying to succeed with the proverbial "mixed bag" of units, much the same challenge as the real commanders faced. The game would surely be a walkover? 20mm quad FlaK are being b...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

Let’s move on to this week’s topic; anti-air! Compared to fighters they are more prestige-intensive (even small caliber AA is very expensive, especially since organic transport is not really negotiable) but generally offer better slot economy.. Whatever floats yer boat..:) Personally I usually avoi...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

Good old AA guns. In my first campaign I used only 2. Both started as 37mm towed and became 88s pretty quickly as I found I was using them in AT mode more often. I agree that having a few around is important as they offer a measure of defence for your ground troops whilst your fighters do their job...

2cm Flak 30 is a fantastic unit... during the Spanish Civil War. ;) https://i.imgur.com/TVEvnJT.jpg 15 OS for 2 slots, giving AA support or AT support, and all around decent SA and HA values? Yes please. I actually used the 2 cm Flak 30 from Poland through France as I'm doing Retrograde on my curre...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

Let’s move on to this week’s topic; anti-air! As compared to the first instalment, AA can provide support up to their range (maximum of 4 if on a hill, which is massive), small-calibre guns have access to close defence, all of them can now switch to a ‘ground’ mode, and they mostly deal suppression ...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

Love the Marder series as well, especially the I (which is in-game as the Panzerjager 35R). The open-topped TD's aren't actually that bad, as AT is generally best used as a second-line support, though I must admit the Stug line's ability to fill gaps in the frontline is very useful. I don't think t...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

Jap fighter pilots discuss how to attack a B-17, I never realised B-17's were so small.. I know you are joking , but when I stood next to an - honest - to - god B-17 sitting on a runway ten feet away , I was shocked at how small it was. Likewise , I always thought the Stuka was roughly equal to a f...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

A few things that came to my mind are: General units: Armoured trains River boats Fighters: Heinkel He 112 (as prototype and also for Romanian and maybe Hungarian armies) Heinkel He 219 (overall introducing night fighters that could be able to operate normally in cloudy weather) Messershmitt P1101 ...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

Think everyone has had their say regarding artillery. As suggested by Kerensky, we'll be doing prospective units that can be included in the game . Some guy has lobbied for a dirt - cheap , poor stat security unit. And likewise I would like to lobby for a German security unit in police green unifor...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

I never use self - propelled artillery . ( except for the assault guns , like stug , which I suppose most agree is a different sub - category ? ) A month or so ago I read a how - to pamphlet written by some German officer on the subject of running an armored or motorized infantry unit. Boring stuff...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

I have a proposal for next week's topic: Units we could potentially add to Panzer Corps 2. The unit roster of Panzer Corps 2 is absolutely staggering... but there's always room for MOAR! Other threads have mentioned garrison infantry. In my mind I see something like conscripts, but instea...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

In multiplayer I bet that philosophy is music to your opponents ears..:) Unfortunately (or should I say lucky for me!) I have no experience of multiplayer. Best equipment (highest stats) are conductive to the campaign environment, because it lasts so long progressing from scenario after scenario. M...

Re: Weekly Unit Discussion Thread

I always try to keep my core full of various types of units for the different tactical option it gives and the fun immersive element. Besides, the equipment upgrade factor and decisions about army compositionor was always the most enjoyable for me in Panzer Corps. Towed guns are great at the start,...
