Re: Napoleonic next ?
I personally would rather see 1500-1700 fleshed out more (eastern armies, Mamelukes early ottomans Maximillian Germany etc) prior to diving into other periods :) Turning eastwards but within the current time frame is a fantastic idea, and could cover conflicts which aren't covered at all by other c...

Re: Question about Tercios
I'm sure that RBS and other knowledgeable people will post a proper response, but just a thought... There used to be an ongoing debate around the question of why armies switched in this period from the apparently lethal longbow to the use of the arquebus. People compared firing rate, accuracy, relia...

Re: Leaders
I agree with Javolenus...on both counts! The game seems just right as it stands imho.Javolenus wrote:I like the game as it is -- without leaders! I think the player takes on the role of "leader" & has to micromanage everything. Kudos to the devs -- a great game from the get-go!

Re: Enjoying the game but...
OK, now I'm REALLY confused!!! I'm currently playing Transylvanians v Imperialists, and my Hussars have just been charge by the Imperialist's Later Tercios; this when the hussars were already in combat with enemy cavalry. Now, I thought this couldn't happen, based on my other games so far, which wer...

>>I think what RBS is implying that their is no documented evidence that infantry uits attacked cavalry. Of course they probobly could and likely there are isolated instances of it but if in general they didnt. If you allow it for one off situations, you, your oppoenet(whether AI or human) will do i...

Re: Enjoying the game but...
I think that the kind of changes you're referring to Pete would probably fall under this heading (again a comment from Richard earlier): "Already the proper use of commanded shot is beyond its ability. Having produced a decent AI (and as has been pointed out elsewhere, the vast majority of play...

I don't think you've really understood what I've written Pete. Maybe try re-reading it?

Re: Enjoying the game but...
The main benefit of formation in the game is protecting your flanks. But other benefits could be added, as you suggest. The problem with adding such fine points of positional benefit is that it becomes increasing difficult for the AI to remain competitive. Already the proper use of commanded shot i...

Re: what's next after this?
A great idea, I reckon it would model the period really well and would prove to be popular.flatsix518 wrote:I have to agree with that. Samurai warfare would not be a big stretch for the system, at all -- and has not been released for FoG Digital.
Excellent recommendation.

Re: Adding colour and immersion.
But if new eras are covered, going forward, what will distinguish them from the current battles. Unless the graphics are greatly extended, the units will look, and act, the same and, beyond a battles name, will appear to be identical. Well, the graphics would be different, the battlefields would be...

Re: Adding colour and immersion.
I can see unit leaders making some sense in an ancient or medieval setting, but I'm not convinced that it would really work for the Pike & Shot era. Inspirational battlefield leaders appear to have been the exception rather than the rule in an age where drill and training started to play a criti...

Re: Historical recaps?
Charles Oman's book is the one that got me interested in Renaissance warfare some 20 years ago, so I'd heartily second Richard's recommendation. It's a very absorbing and immersive read, although I believe some of Oman's conclusions have been superseded by more recent work.

Like Rumguff says, fascinating answer Richard! TBH the experience with Pike & Shot is sooooooooo much better than playing FoG against the AI. Is it verboten to ask if you'd consider - at some stage - working on an ancients or medieval offering based on the Pike & Shot engine?!? I come from ...

Re: AI Query
I've been playing the game since it was released, off and on, and I have to say that I'm really enjoying it. The AI is giving me a tough fight even on the default setting, and as someone wrote elsewhere the game is very unforgiving of mistakes. Hats off to Richard Bodley Scott and the development te...
