Re: A different view of the Battle of the Granicus?

The website author mentions the difficulties inherent in scaling a muddy inclined river bank in the face of enemy actions and partly because of this suggests weight be given to the Diodorus account (and by extension, Green's) of how Alexander's army actually crossed the river downstream. Goldsworthy...

Re: Osprey books

Many thanks for your replies - Goldsworthy is engaging and unapologetically takes his time which I applaud! My word, Anna appears to have a very large archive indeed! I prefer physical books but this would make an ideal try before buying resource, thank you. I will check out the Pylos & Sphacter...

Osprey books

Returning to FOG and this has prompted some ancient military reading. I have found the Osprey books on Leuctra and Granicus to be interesting/good value. It's widely reported that the quality range of Ospreys is quite wide so interested in hearing if others here have any Osprey favorites/recommendat...

Re: Article on Crécy (1346)

Thank you for this, the author presents a great description. I will leave it to others to agree/dispute various points but for me, this is a valuable resource and a great prelude to replaying the battle in FoGM. The other battles he has covered will be something I will be studying too.

Re: A beginners question

Don't worry, your question is perfectly valid! The "fog of war" in Field of Glory 2 (FoG2) can be tricky for new players. While it's a realistic feature, planning without seeing the enemy can be daunting. Here are some tips: Embrace the unknown: Think in terms of possibilities. Where migh...

Re: Running FOG2 on a 4K monitor?

I developed the game on a 4K monitor, so it works just fine. The value depends on the screen size. For anything less than (say) 27" I don't consider 4K worth it. Things are going to be slightly crisper, but you will need a more powerful video card to run games at 4K (though FoG is fairly gentl...

Running FOG2 on a 4K monitor?

Considering options for new PC. Are there any advantages in having a 4K monitor for use with FOG2? I have only ever used a 1920x1080 to date. Same query for Empires but rather than duplicate this post on that forum, folks here may have opinion about that too? Thank you.

Re: A beginners question

Many thanks for answering. This helps me a lot especially the videos. I need to think more about how the enemy is likely to line up as you describe. After playing the tutorials I had moved to quick rather than custom battles where I could not see the enemy list and so had no idea what I could be fac...

A beginners question

I have played the tutorials a few times each and now I'm able to win them consistently. Next I tried some quick battles but I have what is undoubtedly a newcomer's question: I would find it much easier to deploy my force and form a plan if I could see where the enemy forces are. As it is we must dep...

Re: Nearing the 100 hour mark

Can you take a screenshot? It seems unlikely that your graphic's card can't handle the shaders if it is not an FPS performance issue. I read a bit into what Reshade does and it seems likely it is just a settings issue. Thanks for this, here's the screenshot - I haven't read about Reshade but just t...

Re: Nearing the 100 hour mark

Thanks this is good to know and I appreciate your offer for advice on requirements of more demanding titles. I've been mostly an AGEOD type of game person but I'll have a think about what might be needed going forwards. Look before you leap in this area. Buying "gaming" computer gear is o...

Re: Nearing the 100 hour mark

Any midrange or better GPU released 5 years ago or better is already overkill for FoG2 ar 1080p. The GTX 970 I was using had no problems playing and recording at the same time. Should easily handle a simple post processing fx like ReShade too. A used one on the US/Cdn market is about 80/125 bucks. ...

Not the AMD Radeon RX 5700, at least at present.

Re: Nearing the 100 hour mark

My ageing video card (Nvidia GEforce GT 740) can't seem to handle many of those Reshade settings. I have managed to find some improvement with Clarity followed by Tint (Sepia) but it's only a small difference. For the last little while I have been pondering getting a better video set up for a few re...

Re: Nearing the 100 hour mark

"Reshade in FoG II and it works really well with the engine"

thanks I have not tried this before but your screenshots look noticeably better than my game looks - do you use just default settings in Reshade and am I correct thinking the rendering in FOG2 is Direct3D9?
