Point noted about the Dragoons - though the amount of extra Dragoons for the '43' Roundway Down list means you can have 3 x BG of 4, which is rather handy

Been playing around with the ECW lists for '43' & 44' & came up with this draft for a rough army of Marston Moor - the King's side only, of course :) 900 pts really isn't enough to cover something the size of Marston Moor, but it's prolly not a bad stab. Since Eythin & Goring almost won ...

Just bought a big batch of ECW from Kennington, so no excuses not to try the doughty dragoons now

It's the principle of the thing, really: Cheap tat just standing in a line waiting to be charged v decent impetuous troops trying to force the issue. To me, it's just morally wrong that Def. Sp should win anything against Off. Sp. Ho-hum, ours not to reason why, ours but to clean the sty.....*sigh*

Off. sp. if of same quality & armour & roughly the same numbers as the Def. Sp. should cut through them like a knife through butter.

I remain unconvinced of taking Def Sp unless Armylist compulsory.

Indupitably - but having a bunch of Impact Foot/Heavy Weapon/Off Sp/Pikes steam through the Def Sp without even breathing hard, whilst the Lancers sit on the Wings is prolly better
Well, not better for the poor sod with the Def Sp admittedly, but that's just a cross they must bear....

Unless your Shock Mounted get in the soft & smelly, & have to rely upon the Defensive Spears to come to their aid.
Erm, not ideal.....

Defensive Spears are good for:

Stoppers
Rear Support.

Surely just to emphasise the, er .. quality of her armour
