Re: Fatigue System
-1 from me. Without a realistic fatigue system, the game is just chess with pretty skins for me.

Re: Fatigue System
Once again, the Roman maniple system was designed to deal with fatigue. This tactic made their armies able to take on much larger forces and just grind them down. The fact that this game takes that away from the Roman, yet has features like pike square is completely unhistorical. There is a reason w...

Re: New units add suggestion
I'd just like to add that this comes down the game abstraction levels. It has always felt very arbitrary though and not necessarily history-based such as but not limited to, Why do pike form square, yet the manipular tactics of legion are abstracted? At the least, there are now open discussions abou...

Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game
Is there no way to tie push backs to experience of the unit? I think this is the key between both views. If i stick all my raw troops/warbands up front at least I could pre-plan that the push back shenanigans is probably going to happen. A good general will probably stick the raw troops on the wings...

Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game
Please at least try it. Others have been advocating for this since the beginning and have been dismissed outright like at the beginning of this thread. Lucky for us, erichswafford is much more eloquent and nimble with screenshots to point out. Maybe tie in to experience of the unit as well so that R...

Re: March mode
I dont think its unhistorical to have column marches along as they carry a risk in using it. I do think its unhistorical for someone to turtle in the back and draw a game out unnecessarily. If this helps that, why not add it?

Lake Traseme? I think hannibal caught the entire Roman army in column march.

Re: New units add suggestion
But you have siege equipment and terrain on the game. Very clearly documented function of the Roman Army but not in the game. I can see not using wedge formations as there is not a hard cut case except for it being used against Bodica. Why also cannot units change to column formations to cover groun...

Re: New units add suggestion
How about testudo formation? Seems weird pike can change to square but Roman's cannot. Both well documented as well.

Re: New units add suggestion
A very reasonable post. Although I do wish proven systems such as Roman maniples folding through each other, the partisan shot, and other known tactics were better employed in the game. I really liked your suggestion about units like pike pinning other units in place. But totally agree much of this ...

Re: Pike Phalanx
I dont totally disagree with you, but one book does not make a conclusion. As MikeC often points out accurately, we dont really know exactly how all of this stuff works. We know there are pieces of info scattered. I think they are fine as is like some have already pointed out, it's not a hammer unit...

Re: Pike Phalanx
Most sources talk about pikes as offensive units, not bracing units against charges. Technically, we as players should not be able to get them to even march in a straight line forward as they tended to drift right due to shield coverage. That being said, they should have some staying power if they s...

Re: Weird Results
In every ancients rules set I have ever played including homebrews, Armati, etc... a formed unit that contacts a skirmishers unit makes the skirmisher evaporate. I would love to hear the explanation this written into the code.

Re: Skirmishers faster than horses
I dont remember demanding anything. I just think it's a missed opportunity. What about fighting in weather elements. You think fighting in the middle eastern desert is the same as in England? I think fatigue should be a manageable resource that generals should have to watch. It also is the reason fo...

Re: Skirmishers faster than horses
There is no fatigue in the game. No units get tired ever. Maybe, just maybe bad game design? Why always so negative? There are very few tactical war games that have fatigue anyhow. I would like hear how You would implement in this game. How and when would it acrue? Does it represent actual physical...

Re: DLC worth it?
I'm glad this thing is finally getting called out for what it is. A great idea of a computer wargame, stuck with the fog paradigm, with a designer who's ideas are the only correct ones because of his years of tabletop gaming. Hate to break it to you, but many of us have many years of tabletop experi...

Re: I'm done with this game!
I think it would be fine. The risk/reward is that if you are dog pilling a unit, you, yourself can get counter dog pilled somewhere else in the vicinity. I don't think there was as much maneuver in the ancient period as some might suggest. That stuff evolves later on. The lack of risk/reward in this...
