Re: the tactical AI.
Its not so much a surprize that the tactical AI is lacking given the feature's of the game. One has to wonder, what makes a good Ai, and how good an AI are you likely to get? The options in this game with all the module's and variations in which they might be used for battle in a 2 dimensional space...

I agree that it deffinatly could use improvement, its a walk trough the park on hard. Also multiplayer would be nice.

Re: Ship design: Quantity vs quality
Regarding fuel for Corvettes, how much do you consider sufficient for "HG" ones, and then those you hope to move around more? I'm having a hard time judging what is "sufficient". Guess it has to be tailored every game depending on the relative distances between stars? Depending ...

Re: Research for dummies?
What are those (numbers) then? For instance in that video, he would (still?) need to put 913 beakers into Biology to get Xenobiology? And 23 beakers in Automation to get Gravity Resonance Tank? No i don't think so, i think these numbers are more like a "tech ID". They don't check out thes...

Re: Ship design: Quantity vs quality
Not to knock your method, its certainly a good one, I think you are missing a better method here. Why not instead of dozens of corvettes, why not have a few defensive satellites? They are harder to destroy, have more spots for weapons and hangars. pretty much so long as they have adequate fighter s...

You mean calculations? How exactly? I didn't see any explenation in the video.BlueTemplar wrote: EDIT :

Re: Research for dummies?
Those numbers besides the tech don't seem to denote any tech cost. You see how much beakers you have invested and how many years if you prioritise it but you don't see any beaker cost.

Ship design: Ship role's/specializations
This thread is to discuss various ideas or uses of spcialized ship models that players might use and like and for myself to ask a few questions to especially in regard to stealth ships. Basicly the idea here is to list ship models that you wouldn't define as a "all round" model. In fleet d...

Ship design: Quantity vs quality
Just to have a discussion on ship design and to ask people how they organise/build their fleets the more so keeping costs and pontential numbers in mind. What do people thing, is it better to build a larger force that is cheaper in resources, or is it better to build a smaller amount of high quality...

Re: Upgrade automatically
could you make an Upgrade automatically ships the latest design? when you have a Breakthrough in tech? You shouldn't just upgrade ships according to new technoligy or new modules, it's bad in terms of ship specialization, effecient use of power/weight/room and especially resource cost. I make my sh...

Re: Regarding colony ships...
The trick is probably to edit the original colonizer to be a short range one and design a long range one if you'd like the Ai to build the short range version by default, but then that might give problems too afcourse. I suspect the Ai just picks the default model regardless of distance.

Re: Research for dummies?
There is a simple problem youre being faced with: You don't know the cost of research. I can only decide on what to prioritize when i see how many years it will take me to get there at the rate of science i'm making at point in progression i am. But i don't see any absolute cost of tech anywhere let...

Re: Don't bring naval vessels when invading a desert world.
BTW I brought ship on a frozen world. I don't know if it is normal If it were an icebreaker ... otherwise think Titanic I'd say it's not normal. Boats need water rather than ice and the combination of water and ice can rip a hull open. You cannot put a ship on a solid block of ice and expect it to ...

Are logans radioactive bunny's?
For most non humanoid species in Polaris sector it's fairly obviously where the inspiration came from. Sharatar are cats, Drills are crocodile's, Havikan are hawks or vulture's, Vagalar's are koala's or Panda's, Urgans are lizards. Erians are either fish or humanoid i'm not sure. As to logans, obvio...

Ah ok, austee foodstuffs initiative ins indeed a great tip given that it's only penalty is an up'd cost to building construction which you won't do in youre starting planet anyway.

Re: Orbital defenses
Somehow my IR ships were often overwhelmed by 300+ fighters appearing out of nowhere :D Broadside Cluster MIRVs can help only so much after they start equipping missile traps on everything. Must be lack of scouting if they appear "out of nowhere". My human IR corvette's lack a scanner too...

Re: Orbital defenses
Does active armor completly resists dammage from IR lasers? If not then it would be just a matter of time. Eitherway active reidium armor is afaik a lot further down the techpath, a lot more expensive and very noticably a lot more heavy thus slowing down any ship. The Ai would need to be able to cat...
