Re: Reward for historical Formation

I liked the old kampfgruppe game (world war 2) where you gave orders to your platoons and company hq:s. Then you advanced your turn forward and your troops tried to do what you had issued as orders. Germans were quicker to response than Soviets, so you needed to plan the delay there was before troop...

Re: Indians are tough?

I wondered, if some troops should have "large shields" ability that would increase their protection against missile fire from the front arc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwWXuh9oKSY These shields are quite small, but when stationary, the whole group is totally covered. for example. Spar...

Re: Warbands need a rebalance???

You could make superior warband a little smaller. That would make it stand melee little less and give a legion (which has almost the same point value) at least a little change in 1 to 1 situation.

Re: Warbands need a rebalance???

I tried with editor, 20 roman legionaries (78pnts) in row , all in open plain, no generals vs case-1. 20x average close order warband (63 points each) result: IMPACT 2 romans pushed back on impact, 1 of them got distrupted 5 warbands got distrupted & pushed back, 2 got fragmented & pushed ba...

Re: Generals

Maybe some kind of a command point system would help. That could also give friction to units in command radius. This is turn based game, and as such it is hard to implement friction. If you could form groups of warbands those groups could have a leader and leader could have a command capacity. Shoot...

French horses were not well armored during the Crecy. So you could set French knight armored so that the arrows hurt them more and make them less effective in melee. I think one of the lessons from Crecy was that the cavalry needs more armor. 'While a knight was largely protected from an arrow, unle...

I tried this scenario. Very good scenario. When I compared to my own version I was ashamed how my French are a mess around the battlefield and a pain to move. Maybe I should try to do a new version myself too. I also noticed that now it is possible to give bowmen portable defences in editor. Maybe t...

This is the book I was referring to. It is actually about poitiers but it has a great chapter of Crecy and some other battles. http://www.amazon.com/VICTORY-AT-POITIERS-Medieval-Chronicles/dp/1844159329 If interested you can also check my scenarios. Being my first tentative step in custom scenario design, I can't seem to keep my hands off this one. :? I eased up on the steep hills a bit and tried to make the terrain in the two flanking cities visually resemble settled areas a bit more. So, Version 3.1 is ready. This is no easy scenario to repr...

Bug with Line of sight while using fog of war

I have tried to point this out earlier and now I am trying again. Line of sight calculation is too simple. Issue with line of sight : for example, Hills do not offer cover if your forces are behind a slope. You can see every hex that is same level you are or lower unless there is higher hex between....

Re: steep hills

If you want to have a steep hill not all around steep, but maybe one side, then do like this. First make a steep hill then paint around it with gentle hill of the same height. Leave those sides steep you want. hmmm i'm afraid i don't understand what you really mean with "paint"... ...

I would call for more restrictions or weakening of morale if out of command range. That would make it necessary to have all troops in command range and make an important use of leaders. Without radios the flanking maneuvers were extremely difficult at ancient times. One nice thing would be to make c...

The second is good if they fight at evening.

Agree the first is too bright. They fight with bright lights pointing at their faces.

Maybe we could get different illumination the same time as visibility ranges are introduced. :)

During ancient times skirmishing was often ritualistic move which was done first, before the battle. The outcome of the skirmish could rise or lower the morale of the whole army as it was an indication who was favored by the gods. Skirmishers were often the youngest soldiers in army. Skirmishers cla...

100 yards is probably a bit long and the rate of fire was very slow. (I would think 50 yards or less for early hand guns) But I would need to look it up. Somewhere from the internet, do not remember where I think I did find these statistics about medieval shots. Effective accuracy about 1% when sho...
