I wondered, if some troops should have "large shields" ability that would increase their protection against missile fire from the front arc.

You could make superior warband a little smaller. That would make it stand melee little less and give a legion (which has almost the same point value) at least a little change in 1 to 1 situation.

I tried with editor, 20 roman legionaries (78pnts) in row , all in open plain, no generals
vs
case-1. 20x average close order warband (63 points each)
result:
IMPACT
2 romans pushed back on impact, 1 of them got distrupted
5 warbands got distrupted & pushed back, 2 got fragmented & pushed back ...

Maybe some kind of a command point system would help. That could also give friction to units in command radius.
This is turn based game, and as such it is hard to implement friction.
If you could form groups of warbands those groups could have a leader and leader could have a command capacity ...

Bug with Line of sight while using fog of war
I have tried to point this out earlier and now I am trying again.
Line of sight calculation is too simple.
Issue with line of sight :
for example,
Hills do not offer cover if your forces are behind a slope.
You can see every hex that is same level you are or lower unless there is higher hex ...

If you want to have a steep hill not all around steep, but maybe one side, then do like this.
First make a steep hill then paint around it with gentle hill of the same height. Leave those sides steep you want.

Make a hill, then shift right click on it, and it becomes steep, cheers!

I would call for more restrictions or weakening of morale if out of command range. That would make it necessary to have all troops in command range and make an important use of leaders. Without radios the flanking maneuvers were extremely difficult at ancient times.
