I see it as taking the best of the Republican/Hoplite Army 'Triarri' and the best of the Imperial Army 'Praetorians' in order to make my uber mixed army.

My armies mainly consist of Triarri and Praetorians with some back up archers/velites and cavalry. If you want to spice things up, Elephants are awesome too. Either way I pick my units from the top tier soldiers.

Why triarii in the place of legionaries? Triarri are just better in general. They have great anti-trample skill so they rock against cavalry and they are harder hitting against infantry (give them stand firm and square formation, good luck getting through one unit with 2-3 cavalry units). Well if not, I'm guessing triarii with square formation (anti-elephant skill wouldn't hurt either).
