@operating: LOL! That's the first time I've been openly called vain from a CTGW player. I'd better stop proclaiming that my mod is the best thing that happened to CTGW since it's last official update.

On a serious note: Is there any chance of getting your mod being published? IIRC the devs (Lord Zamora (sp?)) had expressed that he/they would give up the game's bible to those interested, or was I mistaken? Or would that be an Ian McNeil call? After all, November 11th is arriving soon with no recent game development ready for market to reflect on the war's ending a hundred years ago. Yes there is a WW I game under development over at Steam, still it is a joke when compared to what you have accomplished. Or perhaps negotiations to have your work be installed as a expansion to CTGW, much like used in other games. Remember sometime back when Kirk23 had his mod added to the campaign menu (for a brief period of time, titled something like "The Eastern Front Campaign". If I am mesmerizing about the impossible, just change the subject.

@operating:

CTGW is a game still being sold on Steam.

My effort is a fan-made work of LOVE and a lot of bugs.

I don't know how much kirk23 was involved with the developers, for my own part I'm of the opinion that I'm nowhere near to what one could call professional enough to meet the quality standards of Slitherene.

Let's just enjoy the ride as long as it will last.

And you please just try my mod, you won't regret it, promise! ;)

I do have a question: If enemy units are on your homeland: Does that affect homeland NM (negatively)? Certainly other factors cause NM to drop. Some years back Kirk23 made reference to territory occupied affects NM, I could not find such in the lua scripts, perhaps there is no such scenario, it could have been that Kirk23 was referring to capturing cities instead, but worded it differently. It's been gnawing at me for quite a while. Thanks

In vanilla CTGW there is no such thing as presence of enemy units on friendly terrain draining morale of the defender, besides from the loss of key cities via a special event. Loss of morale in vanilla CTGW is mostly caused by having a negative balance of kills/casualities ratios.

*edit*
The loss of PP by losing cities is another factor that decreases morale. Losing empty hexes though is not a factor.
*end edit*

Maybe this was a misunderstanding between you and kirk23.

In PotzBlitz however, there ARE certain situations that DO drain the morale of the nation being occupied, for example Russians in East Prussia or Germans in France.
However there are remedies for those conditions that will end the effects.

OK, Thanks.! I was not absolutely sure, especially with all the combat results causing NM changes, that's why I thought to double check with you and all of your wisdom. :P

When I say "Can't remember": I can not recall all the replays and other movements by you, which would be crucial making further decisions. I would have to be at my absolute best in a match with you, anything less would be a gauranteed failure early in a match. I am wise enough to know you are real good in MP. In my current matches with a total stranger has been a challenge, and all to often I am making mistakes that I would have never done in the past, however it has been a good refresher to get up to speed. Mind you my opponent is very competent and somewhat a traditional player, which I really appreciate. I do not see the evidence of a crap load of balloons yet, although he is indicating he might go there. Turn 20 has the Hindenburg line goes from east of Nancy , through Metz straight over to the coast with a few variations in between. Practically the same locations of the real war at this time. He is pressing his fighter advantage of 5 to my 2. I'v edited about a hundred so screenies in preparation of doing an AAR. Personally what happened to me starting a few years ago, I went braindead with this game, I could not function through the very real migraine headaches anymore. I felt as though over time to take you on and felt you deserved it for you were absolutely torching most other players with your skills and cunning style. Many adapted your style of play, which veered away from traditional strategy. Right now I feel lucky to have the matches I have now and do not intend to take on more, "Do not need the migraines".

Your right, It was meant for nehi, sorry used wrong quote, so much for proof reading before release of post. Hope you do not mind a little chat in your thread..? Afterall it is the center of activity here for most anything CTGW related at Slitherine. Once in a Blue Moon a new poster or whatever posts at the Matrix CTGW forum, it's funny, that that forum used to be a Hot Bed of activity, how the times change. :)

opnn is like the last one i played with... we've played a lot of games through ages, at least 20, in all scenarios, some with extra house rules

Robotron

Is there a formula related to the number of kills/losses that contributes to loss of NM? I tried to make sense of lua script morale. What I am asking is: Is there a hard #(s) to indicate either a change in NM or MP? I see #s 100 and 1000 and am trying to get an idea what effect they have...

Thanks, Bob

Yes, there is a formula and it's so complicated that it's not well suited for players to quickly estimate the repercussions on the national morale level for any action during the game.

It goes like this for any single nation:

The nation's army performance ratio is determined by dividing the kills caused (adding 1000) by the casualities taken (adding 1000).
This value is then multiplied with your total unit upkeep.
Let's call the result value "A".

Then the script takes your current PP output and multiplies it by 100.
The result is then divided by the maximum possible PP output.
Let's call the result value "B".

The script then picks the higher one of either A or B.
Let's call that higher value "C".

Now the morale value of the nation will be decided by picking the lesser one of either C or 100.
Added/substracted to/from this are the morale modifications of any events triggered during the turn.
Added/substracted to/from this is the gameplay.surrenderbase value, which is 0 in vanilla CTGW

Voila, there's your morale formula.
It will be calculated at the start of each player turn.

In short: have a good kill/loss ratio while having the biggest army you can build and don't lose any PP.
