@ Titanu: Sorry for my late answer. Imho, the clue is to mix quite a lot of blue into your metal (the shiny armours reflect the sky , especially in the areas of "low and medium brightness". I.e. the final and brightest accents are done with pure metal-color again, otherwise it would look too blue.

This is on double space (120x160mm) because I like having some extra space for making it looking good.
Until now, nobody complained to get to my camps a turn earlier.

I decided to depict only a corner of the camp because I would be able to keep it more or less realistic in scale then.
The ditch and rampart are cut out from a polystyrene block and they are in scale and the minimum the Romans did for temporary marching camps. With an enemy near, the ditch would be up to three times deeper and wider. I didn't want to build that because of the space and the necessary height.

On the rampart, MRR would plant spiked branches as Polybius described it. They are made out of cut plastic fern you can get for home decorating and the cutting work was hell!
The tent(s) are Baueda, originally one it was cut in two to represent lines of tents. The intervallum (the space between rampart and tents) is the only thing not in scale, there should be enough space to deploy the army and to prevent missiles flying into your bed.

Camp guards are velites and we see an officer and attendant overviewing the battlefield. They are Strategia e Tattica for the velites and Feudal Castings for the mounted.

In scale you will find the praetorium tent about 10 feet behind that what I depicted! The ramparts were actually manned by velites.

I will eventually replace their spears with something more realistic, but there are other fish to fry -- Persian fish.

They look awesome! Really pro painted! While taking a look at them I said to myself: if they are 15mm this man is a genius. Being 28mm you have been downgraded to the "almost a genius" category.

Very nice painting skills and great army (I like when pikes point at the enemy).

They look fantastic. And the hoplites and pike show the naysayers that it definitely possible to put 4 heavy infantry figures on a standard size 28mm stand.

Yes, you definitely can put 4 to a base. Some figures work better than others.

The hoplites are easy if their spears are up. They are close enough together to have the shields touching/overlapping if desired. You just need to plan it out before you glue them down. I usually paint the figures after they have been based, but before they get their shields.

The pikemen are harder. The front two ranks are double-based, 8 men on a cavalry base (40mm deep). You have to cut the back end of the pike down unrealistically short otherwise no one can stand behind them.
I get complaints from other players about the pikes-down pose. Its very difficult to move to base-to-base contact like that. But the appearance is worth it! 99% of the time they are sitting in a display case.
I have 3 BGs of 12, and some days I dream of more...

There are times I regret the switch to 15mm from 28mm - made long, long ago. For example, I would for sure have a Carolingian Frankish army (unpainted - ) just because of what's on the market for that range compared with 15mm. However, keeping in mind things like sanity, $$$, space and more importantly aging eyes whereby everything looks like an impressionist painting...
