Alasdair is organising coffe and tea. There will be biscuits but you need to bring a pack lunch or pick something up at the local shops.

Thank you everyone and especially Bob for lending me the army and my opponents Alasdair, Andy and Don for the games and giving me help with the rules. Alasdair is my favourite opponent as I've had my career best result against him (bet there's not many people that can say that!)

Thanks to Alasdair for running yesterday's first round, and to my 3 opponents for the games. A really fun day
Really liked the 3 games format - wondering if the 2 game rounds will be as good to be honest

I guess that depends on wether you like barren wastelands or not.
But seriously, it was a good day, I enjoyed my 3 games.
Thanks Alasdair and all involved in making it a hassle free enjoyable day.
cheers

Re: Southern League 2013
Two of my 3 games were over in under 2 hours (one win, one loss), so I could probably have fitted a fourth game in if I'd tried hard enough...nikgaukroger wrote:Thanks to Alasdair for running yesterday's first round, and to my 3 opponents for the games. A really fun day![]()

Although it did encourage to make me take an all mounted army, so I can see the merits of having some rounds of 3 and some of 2 games

Re: Southern League 2013
All,
Attached are the Oxford results in a tabular form which hopefully is easier to read.

Congratulations to Alasdair, Lynda and Dave for their joint first place (Alasdair had obviously not read the rule about hosts not winning, especially as he spanked me in the last game!) and to Brian Holmes for grabbing 3rd with Tuareg. There was also a prize for Bevan for grabbing the wooden spoon, but it was his first competition with a borrowed army and in game 1 he drew Alasdair! Hope you enjoyed the day and we see you at more events in the future.
Now to roll on to the Clevedon round which will probably be on 24th March, hosted by Don McHugh and the Clevedon club. The theme will be "Eastern Takeaway" (!) featuring armies of India, China, Japan and Thailand - full details will be available later.
See you there!
Don

Can I just say a very big thank you to the Oxford club for a really good day yesterday. Was a long day but very very enjoyible.
I am just awaiting conformation from the scouts that we can have the hall on 24th which I should have by the end of the week, so hopefully I will post the full details and armies next week.

You submarined Nik,Lynda has never played and I have had about 3 games, just goes to prove its a game of skill
I suspect we wouldn't do as well when all the advanced technology comes,I played it pretty much the same way I would have an ancient game

Thanks to Alasdair, the Oxford crew and my opponents for a great day out.
It was so good I'm going to enter the Clevedon round, despite the gruelling six hour car trip...

Sorry guys, is a man not allowed to go to Rome for a few days
I can confirm the date for Clevedon as Sunday 24th March at the usual Scout hut.

The pub is available on the 26th May, so unless any of the other bigger competitions announce dates for that weekend that's when we will be aiming for folks.alasdair2204 wrote: Round 2 – Central London

As far as I know, the cost will be "buy at least a couple of drinks during the day and order a curry for lunch".
We can definitely fit 10 tables in, and I think we can get up to 12.
