Yes some were able to do it, although you've to force compatibility mode, like huertgenwald mentioned. I've also saw mentioned in the GOG forum to disable UAC.
I've played in the beginning of the year, BG with the Trilogy mod, which joins both Baldur's Gate games. This way you will also play BG with BG2 engine.
4 months of intense gameplay, is all I can say. The graphics didn't seem very aged. The gameplay is still superb, IMO, specially when compared with current standards. If they release a BG3 with the same 10 years graphics, it would be an instant buy for me. But it seems Bioware is more interested in awesome buttons and Dragon Age 2 games.

I tried to get NwN to run on my PC but couldn't get it running (not sure if I have the latest patches though).
I do have UAC activated, and intend to keep it that way, the combination of Vista x64 and UAC is mostly deadly to legacy games though.
The BG trilogy mod sounds like great fun, well will try to get it running during the weekend, thanks for all the info/help.

In that case, I suggest you follow this tutorial in how to install Trilogy and the other essential but optional mods.

You've also the Bigger Fonts mod if youi intend to play in higher resolutions. It's not perfect but it can help you.

That's what Bioware produces today:

I hardly believe they once produced Baldur's Gate.

I liked DA but almost didn't touched DA2. It seemed quite a few steps back from DA.
But I'll give it another opportunity one day.
Even DA seemed inferior to BG. In a certain we all expect and like different things in games.
Quite interesting this small interview about the music of XCOM: Enemy Unknown

DA is imho a great game. The story is maybe not as long as BG but a lot more intense imho. It isn't based on the D&D word and game system but it isn't necessarily bad. I quite llike both the DA world and the combat system.
DA2, while still having very good story, was clearly a step down in all other aspects. The fighting felt like playing a beat'em'up game and not a RPG, the UI was totally strange, you easily notice the lazy console port, enemies spawning in fights randomly behind you was rendering any tactical approaches pointless and their massive reuse of locations was getting boring very fast ... but enough ranting here.
All in all Bioware is still delivering quite good games unlike a lot other game producers.

While not a former computer game (at least not to my knowledge), what I would love to see remade is the old Avalon Hill game Squad Leader. I do not like the first person shooters and games such as Panzer Corps seem to have done a great job in transferring such board games to the computer and online.
Cheers

Very interesting, thank you.huertgenwald wrote:For those interested in the new Jagged Alliance :

I had an interesting weekend looking through dozens of boxes, drawers and mostly finding dust, a few Baldur's Gate CD's but no Shadows of Amn and none of the expansions...I did find Panzer General though and Diablo, damn that was long ago.
And after the dust settled I found NWN 2 which I never really played as I can't remember much of it.
So I installed it, and after a long time of patching it actually worked (trick seems to be for x64 to not install it in the Program Files (x86) directory.
I also found out rather quickly why I never finished NWN as the pathfinding is abysmal and your party really needs to be tightly controlled all the time. Story wise it seems so so as there's a lot of sidequests to do before you can get to the main quest.
And as always with DnD games you really need to plan your char ahead else your pretty much screwed (which I solved by using the console and a lot of cheat commands).
Well it's decent enough to pass the time until the next DLC arrives
PS Jagged Alliance looks really good, gonna keep a close eye on that one.
