Round VII: phase 1. Upkeeping and Raising Byzantine Armies

Post by kronenblatt »

The Byzantine Player eliminates armies that he can not afford or does not wish to keep, pays upkeep costs for all his existing armies (1 x strength), and raises new armies (2 x strength).

SnuggleBunnies: you currently have 10 gold, of which 7 will be used to upkeep your existing armies (unless you decide to eliminate any of them or reduce their strengths), leaving 3 gold. How do you want to spend your gold this round?

Reduce the strength 3 army to strength 2, freeing up 2 gold. Recruit a new strength 2 army, leaving 1 gold in the treasury to reassure the Congressional Budget Office.

Edit: this actually leaves the treasury with 0 gold, sad times

The emperor moves to confront the Persians.
One strength 2 army meets the Armenians
The other strength 2 army marches on the Bulgars

We will keep the emperor's own at strength 4
Of the remaining two strength 2 armies, we will disband one and strengthen the other, making it a strength 3.

Eis Tin Polin - A Byzantine campaign of survival: Enemy Player(s)?

Post by kronenblatt »

We're looking for worthy Enemy Player opponents to SnuggleBunnies' Byzantine Player, either as a one-off for a battle or round or on a more ongoing basis. I will continue as administrator but this round step down from being the only Enemy Player. :) Round VIII's battles to be resolved with another Enemy Player or other Enemy Players. In case you're interested, write here or send me a PM.

I'd be willing to play one battle per turn. I'm too busy to commit to more than that ATM.

SnuggleBunnies (Byzantine) defeats Karvon (German) 45-9

I sure am going to miss this Komnenian list. If this results in the elimination of the German threat track, perhaps the 3 of us could discuss whether we should add a new Western threat - like Venetians, Crusaders, or something like that.

Sounds reasonable to me, I don't know much about this period but did the Byzantines ever fight the Mongols anyway ?
Whatever people think is best, probably not a Crusader army starting in Byzantium !
