Division B

Jagger2002 (Carthaginians) defeats SpeedyCM (Medes) 65-46

Tough, tough battle against the Medes lead by the wily SpeedyCM. With plenty of open ground, the Medes went with masses of cavalry, plenty of Sparabara bows and trusty spears. The Sparabara bows interspersed with spears opened the battle by closing on my trailing left wing. The Carthaginian army left faced and the mediums, chariots and cavalry charged while the heavies became the right flank shield. Then it was a question of whether they could win before the Medes spears could flank my right. It was a wild battle with Mede cavalry swarming around all over the place. Fortunately, the Carthaginians right managed to hold while the rest of the army rolled up the Mede right. Quite a battle of Titans and well played by SpeedyCM.

Zardoz02 (Lysimachid 320-281 BC) beat SLancaster (Macedonians 320-261 BC) 74-37.

The Lysimachids had a perfect defensive position on a central hill. Thanks to SLancaster for fighting it out; I probably would have tried for a draw in his position.

Division B

SpeedyCM (Greeks 460-281 BC) draws with XLegione (Galatians 280-63 BC) 31% Galatian losses - 48% Greek losses.

Greek hoplites face the dreaded Galatian warbands and only manage to survive till dusk as the main battle didn't really get underway until late in the afternoon.

Weekly round-up
Two wins for harveylh (Romans) this week sees him move back to the top of Division A, one point ahead of pantherboy (Achaemenids) who has now finished his fixtures. dkalenda (Seleucids) is still unbeaten after 5 matches in third place and is now the favourite to take the title. A lot will depend on the result of his match with harveylh though. klayeckles (Ptolemaics) still has chances with 4 wins from 5 matches and he also still has to play dkalenda. In a very exciting finish to the campaign in Division B, XLegione (Galatians) has finally dislodged Hendricus (Romans) from the top spot but he still needs to avoid a 4-0 defeat in his last match against bottom placed paulmcneil (Armenian Tigranes) to prevent Hendricus from taking the automatic promotion place. Trogilus (Pergamenes), currently placed seventh, can still mathematically finish either joint second or third if he wins his remaining two matches. In Division C, a second win for Zardoz02 (Lysimachids) moves him away from the danger zone leaving Barrold713 (Pontics) needing at least 2 wins from his last 3 matches to avoid the drop. Similarly, in Division B, a second win for phoyle3290 (Macedonians) means he has avoided the wooden spoon and that honour will go to either KiFi (Romans) or SawyerK (Pontics) who both have one match left.

Weekly round-up
pantherboy (Bretons) has established a very strong position at the top of Division A this week with his sixth consecutive win. harveylh (Jewish Revolt) is second, but has only one match remaining and dkalenda (Romans) looks to be the main challenger now and his match with pantherboy is likely to decide the final outcome. SpeedyCM (Sarmatians) secured the runners-up spot in Division B and Morbio (Bosporans) moved off the bottom of the table with his first win. Another win for jjaquemond (Kingdom of Soissons) sees him move closer to greekiraklis (Byzantines) at the top of the table and he now needs 9 points from his last 3 matches to win automatic promotion. Most of the issues are now decided in Division B, but third place is still up for grabs. Herode_2 (Kingdom of Soissons) currently holds that position although Barrold713 (Jewish Revolt) and lydianed (Kappadokians) still have a chance to take it. Brenmusik (Slave Revolt) has finished in the wooden spoon position this season.
