Division C
Geffalrus (Athenians) defeats Gen Shapur (Spartans) 45-20
Disgraced on the field of battle in 320BC, the Antigonid general traveled back in time to meet his opponent on more favorable terrain. A malfunction sent both back hundreds of years too far. Stranded in a prelude to the Peloponnesian War, the Antigonid Strategos took command of an Athenian force facing the Spartans on an open plain. The Spartans advanced in a dense, compact formation like a boulder, while the more numerous Athenians countered with Swooping Crane. The Spartan elites advanced towards the weak Athenian levies, but were unable to achieve contact until the final turns of the battle. Meanwhile, the flank forces of the Athenians, led by Thracians and the Elite Logades avoided the Spartiates and fell upon the Perioikoi support hoplites instead. The valiant Spartiates were surrounded and forced to surrender rather than risk the lives of such valuable citizens. Good game to my opponent, and it was great to have another opportunity to face him again on the field of battle.
The Spartans advanced down the road in the center of the map that sits between two groupings of rough terrain, limiting the effective width of the Spartan line. RR

Division B
oscarius - Graeco-Bactrians 250-130 BC beats Morbio - Samnites 355-272 BC
48 to 17
A very successful initial cavalry charge crumpled his left flank and allowed me to roll up his line. Fun game where the die were on my side.

Re: First Time Control check is Friday 22nd February . . .
I still have not heard from NikiforosFokas so I have sent group PM's to all his opponents in Late Antiquity (0 results received) and Early Middle Ages (1 result received) asking if matches are in progress. I am going to wait until the end of the weekend before deciding what to do.

Re: Tournament Diary and News . . .
The second Time Control check will take place on Friday March 8th. This is the more important one of the two because it is the last chance for me to replace players who are not fulfilling their fixtures. Players are expected to have completed 3 matches in each section they have entered by the half-way stage. If you have entered, say, 3 sections, and you have completed 4 matches in 2 sections and just 2 matches in the other then that will be fine. You have completed 10 matches. I do try and give players a bit of lee-way inasmuch if you have entered 3 sections and have played 9 or more matches then that is fine. But, if you have only completed, say, 6 matches then you may lose your place in one section.
If you are having trouble contacting a particular opponent, or someone appears to have stopped playing, could you please let me know as soon as possible by PM.

rexhurley (Moors) defeats Melm (Persians) 77/34. A "claimed" misclick at the start resulted in 2 units of persian cav charging amongst the swarms, around and around we went after many turns the numbers told against the armoured horseman

It's not misclick charging, but misclicking shooting that offers you stationary shooting opportunity for a turn to hurt the unit with full effect.

Division C
Geffalrus (Bretons) defeats desertedfox (Franks) 61-37 on the last turn of the match.
While the Bretonian Expeditionary Force was off getting stomped into a fine red mist by Sassanid War Elephants, the neighboring Franks invaded the Breton homeland. The local tribes were called up to take defensive positions on the best terrain the Bretons could ever want - 3 steep hills covered in rough ground and surrounded by open plains. Unable to effectively scale the heights, the well ordered heavy foot of the Franks was forced to sit and wait. Initiative shifted to the superior cavalry and skirmish forces of the Bretons. While the Frankish warbands gave as good as they got, they had trouble contending with the superior mobility of the Bretons, which allowed them to choose when and where to engage. Losses were high for both sides, but enough Franks were routed just before nightfall to ensure a Breton victory.
A look at the scope of the Battle of the Three Mountains.
