Byzantines won initiative...but Armoured lancers are much better value than Armoured horse archers...with the help of some good dice, not even the death of my CIC helped much.....

Lucky lancers are better than those with limp noodles instead of lances. I may have even had more armoured lancers than you did (all 12 the Early Byzantines are allowed) for all the good it did.
