While we do want grognards to enjoy the game the game is not targeted only at you. We need to appeal to a much wider audience as well to make this work so some of the changes you request may not be implemented because we think it is best for the game how it currently works. Everyone has thinsg they would like to see or not see and we have to balance that with what we think the market wants. We do listen to feedback but we just dont always agree with it.
This will be must last reply to the bug thread, sorry. So if you want to move my post so be it, I just wanted to make sure it was seen.
Yes, I am a grognard. Some people take the definition as Old Grumpy and complain all the time. The actual definition is Napoleon's Old Guard who earned the right to criticize by virtue of long service and experience (40+ years of gaming and historical research) but were very loyal and passionate also.
Like I said I have purchased every version of PG except for the 2 fantasy versions. I play Heroes of Might and Magic if I want to play fantasy games. I do know it is a Beer and Pretzels game, but it is based in the real world not fantasy (USA scenarios are what ifs and not fantasy). I think you would be surprised that a lot of Grognards also like this style of game, even though some still snub this style. I try not to be to critical, just give my honest opinion. I also know that there are business decision involved. I can always deal with the final decisions, just doesn't mean I love all of them.
My criticisms: reinforcements ringing a city from nowhere, with just purchased units, because I did not park a unit next to the city. IMHO this is a bad scenario design, meaning there should already be the units there and reinforcements should march up to the locations if there are more. I know that it is easier to program (11+ years in the IT field) the reinforcements this way instead of having the AI move them. Also using strategic assets for a more tactical game, such as railroad guns. I know the fun factor for some. They seem to be to very powerful against tanks. Tactical bombers being under powered, fighters seem to do the same amount of damage IMHO. Ships chewing up armored units more than Infantry. I know there is probably a few more I can't think of right now.
My likes: Air defense are not so deadly as the previous versions of PG. Artillery does not rule the battlefield. Upgrade values seem very fair. You have to pay for replacements from prestige. Nice graphics, including the subtle hex sides. MP run off of a remote server, so cheating is reduced. (Why do people cheat in MP, just cheapens the game for everyone). Tough scenarios, I will probably never play on the 3 secret levels due to not liking the way those bonuses are (+5 strength, where a boat can kill a tank unit in 1 shot, wow) and yea I beat all the campaigns giving extra experience and prestige to your AI opponent. I could go on, but I hope you get where I am coming from. I do appreciate your hard work.

Thanks - we do appreciate the feedback, but like I said we don't always agree with it. I'm very familiar with the Old Guard having been playing tabletop wargames with Napoleonic figures since I was 6 and having played all round the world in competitve wargames - they dont come more hardcore than me! However, just because Naploeon gave his Old Guard the right to criticise did not mean he always listened. He did what he thought was right.
I understand you think this is a bad design decision. We just disagree
If you make a more complex supply rule you need to explain it to players and add all sorts of extra UI. We do not want to put this burden on the player - most people do not care about this and can overlook it for gameplay reasons. Why can I build here but not here, how do I make this city so I can build in it. You ened to hso oevernship of every hex to show supply routes. It's nto that we havent thought about it. We have and we have discarded it as over complex and against our core design principle.
Please dont think this means we don't value your feedback. Just understand we have nearly 1000 other beta tesers and may thousands more customers to keep happy as well as you. Please continue to give us your feedback but please dont get offended if we disagree!

108. Mystery of the mysterious vanishing victory hex! (unsolved)

Edit Iain: This bug is 100% repeatable. It happens if the VH is
1) under a tile your air units can move to
2) The air unit would be out of fuel - i.e. it has a red dot on it
3) The VH is in the shroud.
Should be easy to fix.

Sometimes when you mouse click while the combat animations are still playing the game will return you to the main menu. (I just accidentally did this because I thought it would speed up the animations, like it did in other PG series games).
This can be worked around by going back to desktop and then bringing up the game again, which then will return you to the battle map as if the accidental main menu was never there.
Perhaps you can recreate this and fix it.

Aww you edited my post? I was being silly about it, the bug isn't actually a mystery to me. lols
And it's being addressed ya no worries.
@Iscaran mouse clicks are registered at all times. You can actually queue up orders if you are so inclined, select and order units while other units are performing their attack animations and then when the first unit is done, the next will proceed based on your mouse clicks.

I'm currently involved in a Hunters in the Atlantic MP game with Dam. For some reason, all of my naval units have "lost" their movement sounds in the game. All other combat/movement sounds are fine. It seems to have affected only this game. Not sure it's a bug, but figured you guys would want to know.

Another MP issue. This one is in my game with Razz, "Operation Zitadelle." When I load the game, it shows his previous replay, then CTD in the middle of the replay. I've reloaded the game three times, and it crashed all three times. First time since I've been a beta tester that I've had a CTD with PzC.
I just had that map open in the editor to review and update description. Don't know why that would be a problem as game should be on server.
That was after I moved not before so it can not be looking at any changes.
Starting yesterday all replay are only partial. You do not see all combat and moves. Dave can confirm this.
Waiting for Clearing of server on Friday.
Once the server is refreshed all MP should be good as maps have been updated to reflect new cost, however waiting to see if any Allied infantry will change. Concerning my MP maps.... The cost increases only effect replacement costs and very little on the purchasing side as most units are already on the map and there is very little prestige left and earned to purchase new unit in the MP games.
So it's like Poker. You are dealt the cards and must play with them, sometimes you may be able to ask for a new card (unit), but you have to earn that through conquest or saving of prestige.

Thanks for this info.
But when this happens I cannot do anything anymore and if I click any menu item (like new game, load game, options) my current game/battle map is lost forever.
Only way to avoid this "loss" is to tab to desktop and back in. And the normal battle map is restored.
Could it be connected to a graphics driver issue maybe if you cant recreate it ?
I have AMD HD4850 Catalyst v10.12

I don't think it is connected to graphics drivers. Can you recreate this issue consistently, or is it something that happened just one time? If it is consistent, can you try to make a minimal list of steps required to repro it?Iscaran wrote: Could it be connected to a graphics driver issue maybe if you cant recreate it ?

Also, what version of Windows do you have?
Yes it happened at least twice yesterday and a few times before - but I did not notice that as consistent before. I thought I had misclicked something. Or that this was a relic of alt+tabbing to windows.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (SP1) (just updated to latest builds this tuesday).
Minimal list:
-Order a unit move/fire then quickly click once or twice again.
-Once animation is finished the main menu should come up. When you alt+tab to desktop and return the battle map is there again.
I do not remember wether I left or right-clicked for that though. I possibly left-clicked out of reflex because this speed up animation in other PG games.
Also it does not happen always...I then tried to recreate it myself and it took me a couple of tries until it happened again.
