phlewis German 888-932 defeated Indibil Byzantine 988-1041 36/62
A much tougher fight than it looks from the final score. I was lucky in terrain with a pond in the middle of the battlefield right at the edge of my deployment zone with a small gap between the pond and a wood that almost completely covered my left flank.
I anchored my line on the pond with dismounted armoured lancers making up my front line with spearmen in reserve and half my mounted behind them as an additional reserve. I placed my bowmen behind the pond and filled the gap between the pond and woods with more dismounted lancers and spearmen. The rest of the German spearmen were covering a gap in the woods well back from my battleline with the rest of the German mounted behind them as a reserve. The Byzantine cavalry with 2 squadrons of Cataphracts advanced right up to my line and the Cataphracts charged while the cavalry stood there and fired into my dismounted lancers. One of the cataphracts broke the dismounted lancers in front of them and pushed forward. A unit of reserve spearmen advanced to face them and the front-line cavalry reserve advanced with a lancer charging the cataphract. The dismounted lancers holding the right end of the front line were broken by charging Byzantine cavalry. Again, the lancer reserve charged to meet them, and three squadrons of lancers eventually broke the Byzantine squadron after an extended melee.
Byzantine cavalry and spearmen attacked the dismounted lancers and spearmen in the gap between the pond and the wood. The bowmen protected by the pond exchanged fire with the horse-archers supporting the Byzantines trying to break around the pond. The Byzantines pushed back and then broke the dismounted lancers holding the gap. The German cavalry reserve covering the gap in the woods had to turn and race up to reinforce both the gap at the pond and the front line, while the spearmen guarding the gap in the woods either turned and advanced through the wood or marched around the wood to strike the Byzantine flank while it was fully engaged trying to push past the pond.
The cataphracts were overwhelmed by a combination of spearmen and lancers that were able to flank the cataphracts as the cataphracts continued to advance. The Byzantine cavalry that had broken the right flank dismounted lancers succumbed to 3 to 1 odds and the German lancers were able to turn and roll up the Byzantine cavalry.
I was lucky to outflank the Byzantines as they were winning the frontal battle. A very challenging game.

phlewis Egyptian 1068-946 BC defeated Indibil Assyrian 890-746 BC
58 vs 60
The Egyptians had a modest force of light chariots, some Egyptian swordsmen, the Egyptian Guard, Sherden and Libyan mercenaries. The Assyrians advanced with a large force of mixed spearmen and bowmen and a massive force of light and heavy chariots, mostly on the Assyrian right wing with a few heavy chariot squadrons mixed in the infantry line.
The Egyptian right-wing chariots immediately redeployed to support the left-wing chariot squadrons. Even with both chariot wings together the Assyrian chariots outnumbered the Egyptian chariots heavily. The Assyrian heavy chariots mixed in with the infantry made it very difficult for the Egyptians infantry to charge. Any Egyptian infantry unit charging an Assyrian heavy chariot squadron was likely to be crushed under the Assyrian chariot wheels but if the Egyptians didn't charge the Assyrian heavy chariots each Assyrian chariot squadron would stall 3 Egyptian infantry units while the mixed Assyrian infantry rained missiles on them. So, the Egyptian infantry made a general charge all down the line accepting the loss of those units facing chariots to reach the Assyrian infantry. As expected, the Assyrian heavy chariots mixed in with the Assyrian infantry smashed their opponents and pursued into the distance. The Egyptian light infantry followed the Assyrian chariots keeping them under a constant rain of missiles as they eventually broke off pursuit and turned back toward the main battle.
The Assyrian chariot wing quickly scattered and overwhelmed the Egyptian chariots with only a single Egyptian chariot squadron breaking through and continuing to fight. Several units of Egyptian swordsmen turned to block the Assyrian chariots and slow them down. Meanwhile the Egyptian infantry broke the Assyrian infantry and moved to consolidate into a coherent force where they could try to guard each other's backs. It was by then a question of who would break their enemy first. The Egyptians were able to catch a couple of Assyrian light chariots before the Assyrian heavy chariots broke any more Egyptian infantry units.
In mid-battle it looked as though the Assyrians had the battle won when they broke the Egyptian chariots and the Assyrian heavy chariots smashing through the Egyptian infantry gave the Assyrians a commanding lead. Indibil fought his army very well.

rafydedel (philistine 600 bc+egyptian) defeats Jtrillodmp (Urartian 585Bc + cimmerian) 50-17

On a plain with some tiles of rough terrain and forest, the Lysimachid managed to keep a good defensive position. After the initial impact of the gallic troops , the Lysimachid spears had an edge in melee over their opponent; An elephant helped at defending against the Gallic cavalry.

Principes Romanes (Romans 199 BC + Numidians) defeats xxClashxx (Indian 500 BC) 54-22
A well played battle that largely took place on a wide open field (except for when the velites chased an elephant through the forest). The refused Roman flanks almost held the Indian cavalry off one flank and kept the light chariots and cavalry at bay on the other long enough that the two units that worked around were too late to have a meaningful impact. As almost inevitably the case in this matchup, the Indian centre couldn't hold up to the charging Roman infantry. Even so, a shocking number of Indian units held on until autobroken and the Indians managed to get a break in the Roman centre with their elephants. The battle might have been different had one of those pursuing elephants not decided to pass up a wide open Roman flank and start rolling the line!
Thanks for a competitive battle!
