For the first round I was initially intending a pure random draw but if there is demand I might be persuaded to make it historicalish if at all possible.Robert241167 wrote:Hi Hammy
Can you just confirm how you decide first round and future round opponents.
And if you say "swiss chess" can you please explain it.
Thanks
Rob
Whatever happens there will be exclusion pools so spouses will not be able to play each other and for the first two rounds at least there will be no club vs club games.
Round 2 and 3 will indeed be Swiss or put another way, sort the field by score and play 1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th etc. bearing in mind club exclusions, family exclusions and making sure nobody plays the same person twice.
Hope that helps.

Well at least neither was waiting for the other to finish!!
Looks a great mix of players and armies ... top job James.
Count me in for a random first round.
The only person I play regularly is Terry and if I meet him with all his Longbows it should be a short game for the Gauls!!

Burton is the only time we have played in competition, the BHGS software dosn't allow it otherwise, having said that we'd be happy to play each other if we were leading in the last round.although I can't see my army lasting very long against the Vikings.
Don't forget Ian and Sylvie if you are going to seperate spouses etc

One might ask why you need the wife and club exclusions. One would think they'd attend the same clubhammy wrote: Whatever happens there will be exclusion pools so spouses will not be able to play each other and for the first two rounds at least there will be no club vs club games.

Normally club exclusions only last for the first half or less of the competition. Spouse and paretn child exclusions last for the whole comp.stenic wrote:One might ask why you need the wife and club exclusions. Hi Hammy
Do people ever do the first round draw before the day and post it on here or is it always done on the day? I can understand it being done on the day for independent verification but can see how it would be nice to know your first round opponent and army before the big day. Plenty of time to pore over the army lists and planning your strategy.
Cheers

It is not normal to do the first round draw in advance, mainly in case someone has to pull out at the last moment. It is normal for 2 day comps to know who you will be playing on the Sunday morning so you get to decide just how much it is safe to drinkRobert241167 wrote:Hi Hammy

I had considered doing the first round draw. It would mean that people could start pretty much as soon as they turn up which might in turn mean a longer break in the middle of the day to have a quick nose round the show.

There is merit in this... playing three games in 1 day (not forgetting 3 FOW games on Sunday) means that you don't get 'any' time to look around. I speak from experience. The show itself is worth a look too - a cut about the norm I'd sayI had considered doing the first round draw. I wouldn't object to the the draw being done in advance
