Lord Quiggly reporting a Royalist victory!
6% of our lads fertilize the faire peat of Shroopeshire vs 45% of the Cromwellian Invaders.
Commisar Danny sent a flank march to hold off our reinforcements, and thus neither of our detached troops ever reached the battle, (nor were ever heard from again by anyone!).... With further reduced forces, the Republicans dug in behind hedgerows and waited bravely for the assault.
Cheers, good game Sir!

My troops in enclosures were overwhelmed by the accurate shooting of the Royalists....
Fortunately for my head, this is the Puritan and not the French Revolution!!!!

Congratulations to the King and his supporters and commiserations to the Parliamentarian cause... but because this is a home county :- Parliamentarians, please advise on this thread if any of you will give up a county for Danny to claim as his home county.Ulysisgrunt wrote:Humiliating Defeat!

Surely, you mean Warwickshire sir? Unless I am mistaken, or has Essex approved a sneaky forced march that I'm unaware of?TheGrayMouser wrote:Lord Quiggly reporting a Royalist victory!

As a cavalier I take offense that I must report where, when, how or why, with any degree of accuracy, where my battles occur! That being said, my Royal map boy has been duly flogged for not correcting my carrier pigeon message with its alleged dubious information. Of course, the battle occurred where it should have based on the physics of the location of the converging forces and the will of the sovereign of the lands insufferable will.

Duly noted Lord Quiggly... a flogging is too good for him. I suggest he join the forlorn hope in the next melee armed only with his dubious memory and writing tools

On behalf of his Britannic Majesty Charles Stuart, King of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and sundry other Realms,
I am pleased to announce that in recognition of the Sterling services Lord Quiggly has recently performed in the West Midlands, the aforementioned Lord Quigley has been promoted to "Duke of Warwick" and given control of the rents and taxes of Divison VI, apart from those Lord Brent does earn from his 3 counties. Lord Quiggley thereby enjoying the extra income granted to the largest landowner of an entirely controlled division.
His Majesty awaits news of the crushing of the more Northern rebels by Lord Kelen.
Andre Devereaux,
Duke of Cornwall

Re: ECW Campaign 2017 Common Thread
Much of England consists of rolling hills and plains.
The north is generally more mountainous with a chain of mountains, the Pennines, dividing east and west, and the Lake District in the north west, containing the highest mountains in the country.
Other upland and hilly areas in the north and Midlands are the Cheviot Hills, the North York Moors, and the Shropshire Hills.
While most of the mountains and uplands are in the north, Dartmoor and Exmoor are two upland areas lying in the south west of the country. The approximate dividing line between terrain types is often indicated by the Tees-Exe line.
To the south of that line, there are larger areas of flatter land, including East Anglia and the Fens, although hilly areas include the Cotswolds, the Chilterns, and the North and South Downs.
Peak District is an upland area in England at the southern end of the Pennines. It is mostly in northern Derbyshire, but also includes parts of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire and Yorkshire. An area of great diversity, it is split into the northern Dark Peak, where most of the moorland is found and the geology is gritstone, and the southern White Peak
Hence, unless my memory of lengthy touring of the isles serves me incorrectly (I'm pretty sure I was sober some of the time!) the following will apply (Unless I'm overruled by the indigenous peoples of the Greater London suburbs
) :-
All counties including Ireland (Down and Antrim) should restrict the terrain to Agricultural except...
Staffordshire (25),Derbyshire (32), Cheshire (33), Lancashire (34), Yorkshire (35-37) [These I'm not so sure about], Cumberland (40), Westmoreland (41), Northern Counties (38-41),Monmouthshire and Wales (42-44), and Scotland (45-47) can be Pot luck due to either heavily forested or mountains present (haha, what Hillary would call a slight incline)
I'm going to assume the Cotswolds, the Chilterns, and the North and South Down are rolling hills that have no end more than the mountainous slopes of Wales.
Therefore, when a player has a choice, it only applies to these 'pot luck' districts.
What say you?

Sounds good. My men could have used some rough terrain for the current battle...

Re: ECW Campaign 2017 Common Thread
I have yet to place the opposing armies final positions and fate of West Riding of Yorkshire (35). Can some kind Parliamentarian please give a homeless colonel and his army a home county to recommence his support of the republican cause?
COUNTY DECLARATIONS and random events for Turn 2 (if you can hold the counties gained!)
London has declared for Parliament and for the Earl of Essex gaining 150 extra county points. Additionally, the London trained bands have been called up due to the alarming advance of Royalists on London. Hence, the Earl of Essex will gain an further 1000 point army for the defence of London only (They cannot be moved and will permanently disband once E. Anglia falls to Parliament (Counties 14,15,16) .
"The Three Counties" of Scotland for the Seaport the Earl of Ayreshire an extra gaining 100 points.Regardless of retaining possession, to celebrate the signing of the covenant the Earl of Ayreshire will receive 50 extra points for this turn only
NB:- The solemn League and Covenant has now been agreed between the Scottish Covenanters led by the Earl of Ayreshire and the leaders of the English Parliamentarians and by the ordinance of 16 February, the Safety Committee is now hereby constituted as the Committee of Both Kingdoms
West midlands has declared for Royalists and the Duke of Warwick gaining 100 extra points
as has "The Twin counties" of loyalist Ireland to the Earl of Ulster, Lord Lieutenant and Chief Secretary of Ireland who gains 100 extra points
North Western counties for the Duke of Lancaster of the Duchy and County Palatine of Lancaster gains 100 extra points and, regardless of retaining the division an extra 50 points this turn only for increased morale due to the arrival of the Prince on his way north.
North midlands I presume goes to the Younger Duke of Rutland who gains an extra 100 points, no doubt to bolster his Duke of Rutland's Own Regiment of foote (an early forerunner no doubt of the famous 58th Regiment of Foote.)

Re: ECW Campaign 2017 Common Thread
His Majesty is extremely disappointed that the London trained bands have foolishly decided to back the rebels. While He has in the past forgiven the apprentices in their occasional riotous misbehaviours, putting it down to youthful exuberance and foolish chaffing against authority, this is a calculated and deliberate act of defiance against the lawful authority to rule. The masters in London must realise that the arch-traitor Lord Essex will never triumph in the East Midlands and therefore the Bands will be permanently under arms until Lord Norfolk shall triumph over the forces of discord and anarchy. At that point His Majesty will punish all wrongdoers in London in a most severe manner, for He shall not spare the Rod of Chastisement.

Duke of Cornwall, agent of His most August Majesty Charles Stuart, King of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Divers other Realms

It is with honour and generoisity that Ianiow, the Earl of Essex extends his hand of friendship to the former Danny Duke of Warwick now universally known as Danny the Disgraced and bequeathed him the chattels and lands ofthe County and District of London. The guilds, townspeople and apprentices have welcomed him as rightful lord and their representative at parlement and on the Committee of Both Kingdoms.
Thus, th' Erle of Warrewike callynge hymselfe lievetenaut ta th' Erle of Essex and so constitute by th' pretnsed aucteritie of Parlement beynge at Conventrie, and undrestandinge well that th' Kynge wolde moche doo to be receiv'd at London but dere nought.

Kelen2 and I are manfully battling toward a conclusion. There are around 7 turns left on the timer, and one of us is sure to break soon. Even our unbroken units have taken severe losses from the ceaseless exchange of musketry.

Re: ECW Campaign 2017 Common Thread
Gavin,
now that the London trained bands have a commander (The Lord formerly known as Warwick) who will be able to lead them beyond the borders of the City. Does this mean that Lord Ianow no longer gains the extra 50 for owning London plus the extra 100 for owning the City? Is Inow's army now 1,000 and Danny's 1150, or is Inow's still 1150 and Danny's 1,000?
