For 1pt taking the Heavy armour is a no brainier option. Don't leave home without it. Take the max! It's your only hope if hit by pistol/pistol cavalry!

Don
Thanks don.. List adjusted.. Bg dropped to find points... One less unit unit to paint.. :) 12 BGs is scary small for me :)

Nigel, remember you will have an Ally general, my setup was

Ally
Allied Mtd samurai Lt Lance x 4
Allied Hvy Arm Samurai x 6
Allied Arm Samurai x 6
Allied Arm Ashigaru w Spear x 6

GC
TC
TC
3 x Hvy Arn Samurai x 6
3 x Arm Samurai x 6
Hattimoto Elites x 4
Arm Ashigaru w Spear x 6
Arm Bow Ashigaru x 8

Giving 13 BG with giving Max Samurai w max armour, which means against other Japanese unless they have max armour you have advantages which can be enough. Fought five different Japanese armies from different eras etc, none maxed like mine and beaten all of them.
Ally has to have 8 Samurai, 4 Mtd (unless using special option w no mtd) and 6 Ashigaru w Spear
putting the mtd with the Ally means the main army doen't need any.

Use mtd and Ashigaru to support the line of Samurai which is almost4' long. Bow on flank with terrain and Elites on other flank. Usually have my ally on one of the flanks, which may mean having either the elites or bow outside them.

Hope this helps

Ben

Thanks ben, ill tweak around with my list.. I like the early period.. I am taking 4x bgs of mounted bow... When i played the senisble max ft samurai option i found bgs just where not getting into combat... I like youve gone gc. I think thats is a given to max chances of getting charge in without being disrupted. An allied would give me a nice painting tweak as well

quackstheking wrote:Unfortunately Alasdair's Arabs met Ben's Samurai which is a nasty match up. Despite Alasdair initiating 24 separate charges the samurai stood firm. At the end of the day this allowed a couple of leapfrogs with the final order being:-

1) Ben Jones
2)Stephen Stead
3) Simon Le (submarine)-Ray Meyer

In the 25mm I was triumphant! Order was:-

1) Don (not the Don) Avis
2) Dave Allen
3=) Jim Gibson
3=) Ray Boyles.

See you all at Central London and Britcon.

"re 1530 Japanese, what do you think this is, FoGAM?"

what's the difference apart from a few bang sticks?

Up-ing the stakes this year... last with a superior army.. who's going to beat that, eh? :)
