Re: US Team Tournament 2013
SMAC have decent army choices and some decent players.
In period 1 I would put Matt Iverson as top, Ricky and Ethan will be up there, but, IMO, Ethan has the better army.
Period 2 will see Palmyran struggle against so many pikes unless lucky in the draw (lots of Romans) or lucky with terrain. I hate to say that Ruddock should win this
Period 3 and a knight heavy hungarian should do well. The early Russian is hard but, unless it has enough cavalry too slow. Dan should do well unless he runs into lots of knights. Hard to call but between those three.
Period 4 is dull as dishwater.I certainly don't think catalan can do it. Later hungarians should though. The rest are slow, except for the Ottoman, is it really driven by a Bunny?
In my not very humble or educated opinion
SMAC, Bandits, BAGS and New England will make up the top 4

We shall see whether Ruddock can play Swarm as well as the inventor of the theory. And he will be playing against Americans, who are his bete noir, which means that the wheels are already wobbly on the wagon.

I like the way you think Sir.

Though I didn't say the order they would end. But it would be nice to see another different US team and if pushed SMAC are my bet to win.Gino wrote:I like the way you think Sir

Mildly offensive Marc. I think you'll find he did poorly against all nationalities in Lisbon. Even Hauber could beat him.babyshark wrote: We shall see whether Ruddock can play Swarm as well as the inventor of the theory. My apologies, Graham. I should strive to be inclusive. What I should have said was "...Americans, who are one of his betes noirs." That's better.grahambriggs wrote:Mildly offensive Marc. Well we saw Dave R off last night. He had his clean 'jamas and pants in the case. The label 'Delivery to USA' tied round his neck! Clutching his figures in the one hand, tickets and passport in the other. There was a bit of a quiver on his top lip.
Also why don't the Americans had a foreign language forum on the site?

I am referring to "wedge" here.

Re: US Team Tournament 2013
This was from a conversation at the club where somebody said their cavalry were going to wedge, using this as a verb to form a wedge. For our American readers and those from North of Nottingham a verb, from the Latin, is a word that conveys an action. One can 'wedge' something in a tight space but one cannot 'wedge' i.e. form, a wedge. Dave R for those of you fortunate not to know him is a Geordie, a member of a strange Northern tribe who paint their bloated bodies in black and white stripes while watching football matches (soccer).dave_r wrote:I am referring to "wedge" here.

I'm not standing for that - I did OK against the French.grahambriggs wrote:Mildly offensive Marc. I think you'll find he did poorly against all nationalities in Lisbon. OK - I think the results are as follows*
New England -- 322
YMCA -- 304
SLUTS -- 297
BAGS -- 292
Bunnies -- 292
Beltway -- 277
SMAC -- 271
Death Panel -- 244
Geeks H -- 235
Wii Not Fit -- 179
SB -- 160
Scallywags -- 131
Trying to decipher a hand written note - don't know who SB are!
Thanks to all for a fantastic weekend - my opponents, Greg, Marc, Marco and Joey and the Dallas locals for making my stay so enjoyable - that's Mark, Larry, Bob, James and (my apologies) the other chaps I've met and who'se name's I've forgotten (I blame the free bar).
I'm waiting for a very large slice of humble pie from a certain Marc Crotteau, but only if he doesn't get killed by a certain Mr Hazelbark first

Will the final scores be published by book, or just by team?
Re: US Team Tournament 2013
Are you hoping they are, or are not Chuck?clhines4 wrote:Will the final scores be published by book, or just by team?
Re: US Team Tournament 2013
For me, there isn't much mystery. I had two winning draws, a losing draw, and near dead-even and mostly bloodless draw, which I assume would put my score somewhere in the middle range. That said, the 30-0 system is a new to me, and being non-zero-sum I don't have much of a feel for the average points per game, so I don't really have a feel for whether I'm lower-middle or upper-middle.Scrumpy wrote:Are you hoping they are, or are not Chuck?clhines4 wrote:Will the final scores be published by book, or just by team?
I am also curious to see how the standings would rearrange themselves under 15-0 scoring. Someone said that the scores would be converted so that some sort of ELO calculation could be done, and if this is the case, I'd love to see the converted scores along with the event scores, just to see the changes.

Re: US Team Tournament 2013
From memory, at the Lisbon teams event last September it made no difference to the standings when the 30-0 results were translated into old money.clhines4 wrote:I am also curious to see how the standings would rearrange themselves under 15-0 scoring. Re: US Team Tournament 2013
In my case I had four draws, of which two were very bloody "near wins." Those type of games are rewarded under 30-0 with the extra points for damage dealt while not suffering the 5 point penalty for not reaching conclusion before time was called. Ultimately it will indeed make no real difference since I finished so far down the ladder, but I suspect it might make a difference regarding which of the lower rungs I occupy. I'll only know for sure when I see the scores.zoltan wrote:From memory, at the Lisbon teams event last September it made no difference to the standings when the 30-0 results were translated into old money.
