Given it's the "Worlds", would it not be making more sense to use the rankings from the ELO-rankings site? Whatever people's views on ELO, at least it's calculated neutrally and "opinion" free.

I will use the ELO for overseas players but while the ELO is highly laudable it does not really penalise players who have not played for donkeys years in terms of their rankings. For example I am very out of practice and have not played many comps this year, as a result I am low in the UK rankings and IMO I should be. If I was playing I would not expect to be seeded just because I was good a year or so ago.

To be honest there are not many people in the same boat as me and I suspect there will be a high degree of correlation between seeding from the BHGS and the ELO systems anyway.

Agree with you Hammy. A few years ago I'd expect to be seeded. But I don't compete in England much anymore - pretty much just Britcon. And the Scottish tournaments don't usually count in the rankings. So I'm proud to be unseeded, but hopefully a nasty surprise! ......no nasty comments now.......

Alan, if you can get the Scotch comp organisers to send Dave and I the results (FoG:AM and R respectively) we will gladly include them...

I have just paid for entry to the FoG-AM early period. David will be coming to play as a junior in the FoG-AM Medieval period, so no payment made. Posting that information here because despite several previous emails I am getting no acknowledgments from BHGS.

BHGS: please note I'm no longer entering as a floater seeing as no-one could be bothered to reply to me.

Britcon and the Worlds 2012 - update

Places are filling up fast and having checked the entries so far there are a number of regular entrants and long distance travellers who have not yet entered. Unlike at previous Britcons the number of places is finite, when they are gone they are gone. The last thing we want to do is to have to turn away players who have been regulars or who have traveled a long way so please if you have booked travel and or accommodation already get your entries in as soon as possible.

Hammy, can we get some confirmation/acknowledgment on entries? In my case I've paid entry so I have a record of application for entry - but I assume thats no guarantee of a place (from your posting). But I have absolutely nothing to confirm Davids entry as he's a junior and no payment made.

Alan, the fact you have paid is a guarantee of a place. We are not full yet. There are a number of regular entrants who have not yet entered and the message was trying to be a gentle reminder that if people want to be sure of places that they really should enter and not assume that we will somehow know that person X or Y is entering through our psychic powers.

There has been no process for confirmation of entries prior to the posting of runners and riders in the past. I suppose we could do it but it would be a lot of work. If for example I send e-mails to the addresses provided with the bookings I suspect that a percentage of them at least will not get replies so I would then have to further chase to confirm.

As for David's entry you should get something shortly regarding that. Unfortunately the people running Britcon in the main have real lives and real jobs to do and the last month or so has been particularly hectic.

Looks like I have a lot of e-mails to send then.

That is not the case for other events such as the Challenge or Roll Call at least I have not had such e-mails in the recent past. It could well be because I am normally umpiring though.
